Hey there. After choosing to field Lizardmen as my first Fantasy army, I had gone and picked up a codex today. Thing is, however, that I'm still in the process of learning the rules of the game in general, so I was wondering if anybody'd be willing to offer some codex advice. For example, what's the best way to start out (with a budget of about $100)? Are Scar Veterans worth it? If so, what should you equip them with? Which Skink units are more useful (the Skirmishers, or regular Skinks)? Is the Skink Priest a more worthy hero choice than a Scar Veteran? How should I (more or less) play my Lizardmen? Are the Cold Ones cavalry worth it?

These questions are more like guidelines, and I'd like random tidbits of knowledge and insight on LM. It'd be greatly appreciated, thanks!

lizard men in my opinion one of the best to start out with, and if you could get alittle more money id get the starter for sure. scar veterans and skink priest is how i played mine when i had them and they did good for me, so use both.

Skinks in general are good to me either way, but if i remember right the normal skinks have more shots when shooting and i think better range.

and cold one cavalry are a must for me.

Youll see alot of people run there lizard men teams with the slanns or a bunch of skinks but i like using saurus there pretty mean in close combat.

Its really however you want your army to be magic heavy or combat heavy or mixed.

I'm going to assume you want to know which choices are more competitive so that you won't buy the less competitive units.

The units that you cannot go wrong with are:
Slann Mage-Priest
Saurus Scar-Veteran(s)
Skink Skirmishers (with Blowpipes)
Saurus Warriors
Chameleon Skinks
Salamander Hunting Packs

Then there are Stegadons (and Ancient Stegadons) which may appear in a Stegadon focused army list.

Then you have Temple Guard which can be solid in a list with a Temple Guard semi-deathstar.
