I thought the scarabs woould have trouble against str 6+ template weapons and the plasma executioner has the right weapons to deal with them. Being bunched up after assault helped.

Years ago I stopped playing Necrons when the Chaos 4th edition book came out and siren was introduced. I think chaos has all the tools to still beat the Necrons today. Very interesting. Didn't the Necrons go to sleep because of chaos or is that the old fluff?

My mistake was not harvesting the scarabs for a turn or 2 more. Not knowing that the scarabs still roll on the damage chart AFTER they reduce armor till today could have helped as well.

Scarabs are scary to vehicle armor keep your land raiders and leman russes away. The main tomb lord is a bit cheesy for all you get with the points they cost... Oh well, the Necrons must die... we just need to convince the tyranids and orks to go to war with them... Maybe we can trick the nids' into thinking there is biomass under all that metal... cheers.

Yeah, no doubt! Obviously your only real target for a charge with Scarabs should have been the Leman Russ and if you couldn't reach it then, you should have stayed back in the darkness and kept creating more Scarabs.

You have to think of it like this: Every turn that the IG aren't shooting at you, is really a turn you're 'winning' because you're making more Scarabs and you're still hitting with Imotekh's lightning.

So there's no rush against Guard with your army IMHO. Just move up really cautiously, making sure that your Scarabs will get their 3+ cover save if shot at and just keep pumping out more Scarabs and basically daring the IG to come out of their hidey-hole at which point your Destroyers should be able to get their shots off at the forward elements of his army while he will struggle to see most of your army.

And yeah, even in the game you played, I'm sure those two Chimeras probably should have been destroyed by the Scarab's charge as well!

You're still doing great! To me, Guard is probably the worst matchup for Necrons.

Looking for to more battlereports from you guys!

What's with the guy in the background complaining about scarabs? "That's just...stupid!" he said...Here are some other things that are 'stupid' in the game:

1.) Weaken Resolve
2.) Lash of Submission
3.) Thunderwolf Lords
4.) Wound Allocated Nob Bikers
5.) Jaws of the World Wolf

And so on, and so forth. They are stupid, but have hard counters if you can find them (some armies can't). Scarabzilla is the same thing here - it is a strong use of the rules that is totally legal. We lost the turbo-boost but with a good backup of tomb spyders you can get those scarabs to de-mech an army turn 1. Then it's a foot battle after that and more of a fair fight.

I'm not putting anybody down but i disagree that GW should 'change how that works' just because necrons got a little gem that's good for a change.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I've heard several people say that and I just don't see it. The Guard do one thing well: shoot (and lots of it) and the Necrons are just about the only people who are able to shut that completely down (or shut it down heavily) by calling in night-fighting.

Necron's biggest weakness I would say is close combat, and (mech) Guard don't really have anything for the Necrons to worry about along those lines.

So in my head, I actually see the Necron codex as a nice counter to Guard. As far as other 'shooty' armies I think both Grey Knights and Space Wolves are a much bigger threat to Necrons because they tend to have some pretty nasty CC elements as well (and Space Wolves have Acute Senses too).

Personally I think the biggest threat to Necrons is probably a well played Tyranid army (in general, not specifically against the Spyder/Scarab factory).

Hahaha, the guy in the back is me, and I am not saying scarabs are lame, but the ability to conga line them out into the other guy's deployment zone while creating them before they even move, is stupid.

Other than that, they are clearly, imo, the best unit in the book.

@yak
Yeah, we came to the same conclusion, it's better to farm scarabs and be patient than charhe forward for an early game charge.

Am I right in assuming the Necrons pulled the win off at the end?

Wasn't keeping track that well but it seemed that way.

Yes, they sure did! Luis could have won, but he made some mistakes and Will took advantage of them.

So Reecius, who else is in the pipeline for the Necrons to fight?

Are you guys going to play around with some other units in the Codex?

We definitely are going to experiment with other units.

So far, we have put the conrs up against Mech Blood Angels and Space Wolves, both tournament builds. We're working on those videos now.

We're really like the crons so far, although they do have some big weaknesses. We will also be working on using some other combos and such.

We most likely will be doing a series of games on the Crons to really run them through their paces.

And here is some more commentary on the Crons for those who are interested.
