Subject: Big Mek: Replace slugga with the following.....

I've got a simple question that has been bugging me for a long time:
Look at page 97 in the ork codex, at the Big Mek entry.
It says:
Replace slugga with the following: Shoota-rokkit kombi weapon, shoota-skorcha kombi weapon, Kustom mega blasta.
And after that:
Replace slugga with the following: mega-armor, SAG, KFF, warbike.
What's the deal with that? My guess is, that they made it this way so you could take a KFF and lets say, a Kustom mega blasta at the same time. But it's kinda difficult to understand. Perhaps they didn't have enough room in that box to explain it more thoroughly. Anyone have a clue regarding this?

No. You only have one slugga to replace so you can't take both options.

Well then why would they divide it all into two parts? I understand that you shouldn't be able to take a SAG together with a kombi shoota, but then they could have placed SAG under the first row of ''replace slugga''. That would make more sense IMO

I'm not sure why they separated the wargear from the weapons but the fact remains you can't replace a single slugga twice. Have you checked the FAQ on the matter? I'm not able to check it at the current time.

No, the FAQ doesn't say anything about this. But, a Big mek is in fact a nob with a Ld of 8. A nob can be ''upgraded'' to meganob (It's a diffrent entry, i know, but still). In which case, the nob gains a power klaw and twin linked shoota. The twin linked shoota can then be upgraded to a Kombi Skorcha/Rokkit Launcha. Why shouldn't the mek be able to do this aswell? Yes, it is true that you can't replace a single slugga twice. But i can't help to think that you still somehow can do it, exclusivley for the big mek. It could be like this: the bike, SAG, KFF and mega armor are moved to the ''May take any of the following'' line. And then a note could be added saying: ''May not take two or more of these four items at the same time. Also, Shokk Attack Gun cannot be taken togehter with any other ranged weapon.'' This would clarify some things, don't you think?

It might, but that's not what the codex actually says, is it
As they haven't FAQ'd this yet, and it's been 3+ years, i doubt they will.

No. A Big Mek is not a nob. He is exactly what the rules call him, a Big Mek.
As for the rest, it will have to wait until I can get home to my codex.

There are two main theories... One is that the division was just to separate the 'special' gear from the normal weapons. The other, based on the fact that apparently some of the non-English versions of the codex actually have 'Replace Slugga and Choppa' on the second list, is that it was a last minute change and they either didn't pick up on the fact that it left them with two 'replace slugga' lists or they just didn't want to mess up the existing formatting more than they had to.

I have an old Mega Nob with a Kustom mega blasta, and the only way to get that would be a Big Mek could take the Kustom Mega blasta and Mega armor, but guess that is just a Model that no longer can be taken.
Wish I Could take both Kustem Mega Blasta with Mega armor.

THIS. There are a few places where it says 'slugga' for us and 'slugga and choppa' for translated codexes. It has been common in the past for the english codex to be printed with errors, and translated codexes are printed with the corrections before they are translated.
This though, has not been errattated... not like it needs to be because Mega armored big mek is a terrible terrible option because you basically pay the same cost for a megaboss with almost every stat being worse. And the burna/ PK megaboss is garbage because the Big Mek can't have grenades so his Burna will always strike at I1 unless he is in a second round of combat or assaulted.
The only good options that would have been cool would be a mega KFF or mega SAG mek. But those don't work based upon the current codex so that is that.

Iin the english codex it says you can swap the choppa for a PK and the slugga for mega armour. Same points as mega armoured boss, same attacks. But lower ws, toughness and probably others (dont have codex on me) the only upside is that he can also fix a transport/dread/kan. Also, just plain awesome having a model with 2 pk's!

I have a conversion for the 2 PK's that has 2 wreckin' balls to represent them
I may have to do another one with 2 PK's over his shoulders , like Doc Oc or a mini-dread

Cool conversion, garbage rules so the model in question has no valid reason to ever be on the tabletop.
Most people would probably accept a dual PK megaboss as a PK megaboss with attacksquig.
Besides, dual PK orks make little sense as every ork needs at least one hand to pick his nose with. At least Space Marine PFs have fingers.
