Hey all, I apologize if this is a redundant question as I don't have a rulebook while I'm at work.
I was wondering if there's restrictions for special rules being conveyed onto IC's. Here is several examples.. I'd like to know what you call is.
Nob Squad, Painboy gives the squad Feel No Pain, Warboss joins squad.. does Warboss get FNP?
Chaos Lord joins Plague Marines, I would presume he doesnt get FNP because its an attribute inherit to being a plague marine where as a Painboy is like having a medic.. he'll stitch you back up.
Chaos Space Marines with Mark of Khorne, the Mark gives the squad +1A... Lord joins the squad does he get +1A? Like the Painboy does it convey to anyone within the squad? My friend runs Dark Angels and when he had Belial in a Deathwing Squad he says that the Standard bearer gives Belial +1A and that the apothecary lets him also get FNP.
I always thought that a IC cannot get bonuses from the squad he joins, but he can convey some of his own bonuses to the squad. As such Fearless is passed onto the squad.. But then I get confused with Rules vs Wargear. A prime example is Fabius Bile has a piece of Wargear that gives him FNP, i would assume that does not give the squad FNP that he joins. However he has Fearless in special rules, that would give the squad Fearless correct? Then theres Typhus who has Fearless and FNP under Special Rules.. does this mean he gives the squad FNP? and if so why not?

In most cases such as apothecaries, painboyz, sang priests etc it states that the unit benefits from the special rules they bestow. Its a bit more of a grey area when ICs join such unit...

Yeah I've been reading along.. i guess theres a lot of controvery about it all. But it would be nice to know as ...well...
10 Khorne Berzerkers with Typhus, now Zerkers have FNP? Thats crazy.. but not as crazy as some combinations I've seen with Space Marine and their armies (IE Dark Angel Terminators and Space Wolves).

It entirely depends on how the rule is worded.
For example - the rules for Icons / marks state that attached ICs do NOT get the benefit, whereas Doks Tools states the *unit* gains the benefits, which includes an attached IC.
Typhus has FNP *himself*, he has nothing stating he gives the unit he is with FNP - so he doesnt.
Same with Plague Marines - THEY have FNP but nothing stating it applies to the whole unit - so it doesnt affect any ICs.

What about an Autarch joined to a unit of Swooping Hawks with Intercept? Does the Autarch also gain the bonus?
And kinda freaky, was just going to ask this question

Not unless the rules for Exarch powers state they do - which from memory they DO for Autarchs. You would need to check your codex, as Exarch powers are crazy....

For Intercept, it applies to the whole squad.
Does the IC count as being part of the squad in relation to that buff?

IIRC squad powers affect Autarchs unless specifically stated otherwise. I know Shadowstrike specifically states it cannot affect an Autarch.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Just checked, and Shadowstrike seems to be the only one with that statement. Thanks for the input!

To refresh your memory: Exarch powers all apply to an attached Autarch or Phoenix Lord, but not a Farseer or Eldrad. Further rules: 1) Phoenix Lords can only join aspect squads of their aspect. 2) If a Phoenix Lord is attached to a non-Aspect Warrior squad, the rest of the squad does not benefit from any Exarch Powers. 3) Crack Shot (on Fire Dragon and Dark Reaper Exarchs) and Fast Shot (on Dark Reaper Exarchs) only effect the Exarch, not the rest of the squad. 4) Exarch Powers do not stack if both the Exarch and attached Phoenix Lord have the same power. 5) Autarchs cannot take advantage of the Shadowstrike ability from Striking Scorpions Exarch. 6) Yriel is a grey area of the rules, but most people play that he gets the Exarch powers as he is a Autarch by fluff (much like other Special Characters). 7) Bladestorm only gives an extra shot to Shuriken weapons, so if an Autarch has a non-Shuriken weapon, it doesn't get an extra shot. 8) As per the Eldar FAQ, Autarchs can only use Skyleap if the Autarch has wings. (Warp Jump Generator does not work.)
