Well today in english I was taught slang, and Well it was a bit wrong
According to edexcel

Porn=Good
Doy=cute
buff=physically attractive (I can understand it kind of but I thought it ment large)
pwned=destroyed
owned=beaten
tight=mean
and the worst fail
EPIC= fabulous
so, who thinks edexcel was drunk when they made this list

Some slang is very regional but still...


Porn = porn (wtf they on?)
doy = ??
buff = attractive or fit (usually referring to a man)
pwned = It comes from "owned"
tight = mean with money
Epic = either great or awful, depends on context. That game was epic!! OR Lolz, epic fail.

Bit weird those... probably words takne from all over the country that's used for slang. To me it's:

Porn = ...well, porn. Ca't really be anything else can it?
Doy sounds more like "doyyyy", although lately that got replaced with "herrr derrr" or "derp". So pretty much "silly me".
Buff is more like toned/ripped - reference to males mostly saying how muscular they look.
pwned = owned.
owned = beaten quite badly. Reference to video games.
tight = awesome
Epic = the biggest measurement of awesome in the history of awesome In short, awesome.

The thing is, according to the examboard:
Porn=good
nang=good
so they have two words that mean the same thing
also
Bare=a lot
I always thought that tight meant close,
"me and him are tight" is an example of what is is usually used for, meaning they are close

Edexcel is an exam board in england.

Whatever happened to 'rad'.

Slang (especially youth slang) changes so often, by the time they codify it, it's no longer in use.

'Taught slang'? I hope they're not advocating its use.

As for the terms, they couldn't have possibly painted themselves as being less out of touch with the youth they teach.

Their definition of 'porn' is obviously a ploy to try and remove it from the language of younger people.

Never heard of 'doy' in my life.

Buff is well toned and muscular.

Pwned and owned are exactly the same thing, albeit the former is more widely used on the internet, especially in MMOs, for reasons I can't quite fathom.

Tight depends on the context, but they've got the definition pretty much right, although it can't have been hard considering that it's had that meaning, in addition to its other one, for as long as most people can remember.

Epic also depends on the context. If you were referring to Homer's (of Ancient Greek fame, not The Simpsons fame) works, then Edexcel's definition would be hilariously incorrect.

A person who is buff is diesel. Basically it means that they're built which in turn means physically muscular and usually attractive.

Epic can mean fabulous because there are different meanings for fabulous. One meaning of fabulous is attributed to females and designers or hair stylists. Fabulous can also mean well done or incredibly delicious. A cake can be fabulous or taste fabulous even if it is served by someone who just looks fabulous.


Porn meaning good or even nang meaning good I have never heard of.
