An interesting thing happened in a game tonight. I had a string of four terminators and the middle two were killed to death by lascannons. The terminators then failed their morale check and fell straight back toward my board edge thus remaining out of coherency. Is there any way that they could have regained coherency? Does the requirement to move into coherency apply while falling back? Could the terminators have run to get into coherency?

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

I think that you move into coherency after being shot, before you run. If not, they'd have to arrow in together because a unit has to move to get back into coherency doesn't it?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Yeah, the'd move in a triangle/arrow shape to move into coherency and fall back

No, they do not. The Fall back move *requires* that the move the FULL fall back distance DIRECTLY to the board edge, you have no allowance to move into coherency - the fall back move is much more specific in this instance.

So normally you would simply fall back off the board.

However, terrain can result in one model moving diagonally while the lead model moves in more of an L shape, thus getting the former model closer to the lead model. You can force this by moving your tanks in the way - making a v around the falling back models will make this happen.

What about running in the shooting phase? Would you be able to move just the model that is further behind up however many inches you rolled?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Which is exactly why page 12 of the BGB specifically says that the unit must move to regain coherency and is only exempt from doing so if it can not move for some reason right? (Last I checked even though they are to fall back directly towards a board edge they are still able to move and this does not override the coherency rules.)

This is what was suggested to me. Sounds fishy though.

Running would work, as long as it was done "Towards their own table edge." P.46

Note how this does not say directly, like the rules for fall back do. So as long as you finish your move and you have moved towards your table edge, you should be able to restore coherency.

Salisil - nope, you must move directly towards the board edge, which is a more specific directive than moving back into coherency.

nos, they are both equally specific, I do not see how either rule can be classified as more or less specific, one says must do something unless a specific item will stop it, the other just says to move directly towards table edge (in fact it doesn't even say you must which is backed up by the FAQ which allows you to even move directly away from own table edge if you can't move towards it or sideways from it).

Given what the two rules say and how they are worded I would say the Coherency takes precedence over fallback.

This came up a month ago, with a lot of contention and no agreed upon resolution.

As Saiisil just pointed out, the rules don't quite get along. I think you and your TO needs to decide which takes precedence or how to work it.

For my 2 cents, I'd *rule*, that the lead model has to move directly to the table edge, the rest ... can attempt to regain coherency with some angled movement. Run helping.

Just another gap in GW rules, in a very complicated, but fun game.
