Hey guys,

I've been on the search for my perfect 40k army for awhile now. Every single army I pick up, I have been disappointed with. I was about ready to pack up and quit 40k, until the Necrons were released. I love the models. It breathed new life into my hobby addiction. I was filled with joy and hope.

But now, I'm seeing that they are said to be on the level of Tyranids (Which was my old army, and they blew chunks).

So my question is... are they competitive? If I pour my heart and soul into this army, will it break my heart in the end?

The army is too soon to know though I cant think they will be a bad army. If your worried you have to wait a bit, especially till a FAQ may remove some of the more important questions.

In my local meta Ive yet to come close to losing with them yet in more than a few matches if that helps in any sense. Though so far ive been very heavy scarab spam

You know, after all these years of wargaming... I have no clue.
I thought I knew, but I don't. I know that doesn't help at all, but I'm not going to lie. I like a well balanced army, that has variety, a few tricks up it's sleeve, and enough bodies to impact the game. I hate marines and humans. I don't want an army that has 1 or 2 builds. I want options.

Unfortunately, I feel like all the things I love, get shredded by my friends tournament listed Dark Eldar, and it discourages me. Tough guys? Who cares, poison shoot you to death. Tough vehicles? Who cares, I have 17 lance shots to take out all your vehicles.

They are not on the level of Tyranids. They are BA/DE level. Go check out some of the battle reports, to see for yourself.

Keep in mind, a lot of it boils down to the general too....

If with this comment you're insinuating that I'm a bad general, you're telling me something I already know. I just want to make sure that, if I take the time to learn everything about this army, I will have a good chance at competing.

If your worried more about competing, why don't you pick up SW or GK then?

Tactics wise they are an army all about Range control. They want to keep you within their 24" bubble, and keep you out of your 12" assault bubble. This can be done via vehicles, use of JI, or by the standard move-fire-move (Phaeron lord + immortals = win).

If your aim is to beat DE then just tailor a list. That's if he's your only opponent which It sounds like.

If he's not your only opponent stick with Nids and stop whinning. DE beat most people if played well and Nids require tactics which you've already professed you don't have.

Necrons find DE just as hard as most other armies. Stick with your original and you'll do fine.

Go Termagaunt heavy with Gargoyles. Oh Dark Lance shot a Gaunt have a Cookie.

Every army can be "comprtitive" if you play a competitive list. If you for some god-forsaken reason decide to make some form of "balanced" list, then unfortunately I don't think any army will fit what you are looking for.

What 'bout my star?~*
