Hi, Dakka. Now, in your opinion, how many Terminators do you think have to be in a Deathwing army to make it a minimum Deathwing army?

Technically all you need is 11. Two squads of 5 for troops and one for Belial the HQ. On the other side of the spectrum the max you can have in a standard force org chart is 47. Six 5 man troop squads, 3 five man Elite squads and 2 models as HQ. The really big drawback to DA is that their squads are limited to 5 models, they cannot add to them. I have 80 termies in my death wing army from the days before the current book came out. In a standard non-apocalypse game I have 35 that I can’t use.

Probably work

What point value? My default position is "as many as you can", but I like termies.

This is kind of a pointless question without knowing the points level. Minimum for a Deathwing army is two unupgraded squads at 215 a pop and Belial at like 150. There are no hard and fast rules for building a Deathwing army really.

Isn't there some special character in the SM codex that lets you take Termies as troops? That might be a solution. The other solution is to ignore the 5-model limit.

In response to Mr S Baldrick,
Try using youre heavy weapons as options for fighting other armies, ie cyclones against mech/3+ and heavy flamers for the orks etc and a couple of c-fists for the new necrons. This way you will have lots of options and thats a good thing these days.

45 + Belial + any other terminator character is max me now reads, even i didnt notice it was troops and elites. Omfg. Thank god they dont get l/raiders as transports.

I`ve got 10 and belial and thats enough for minimum system requirements ;-).

Nope, no Space Marine character lets you take Terminators as troops. Logan Grimnar can take Wolf Guard, and by that same notion Wolf Guard Terminators as troops, but that's Space Wolves. Also, the above poster should be taking assault cannons instead of heavy flamers. Assault cannons are awesome against damn near everything.

I have a good mix of all the heavy weapons and about 3 squads worth of CC termies. I just swap them out as needed. It would have been nice though if they would have allowed us to add to the squads size in the FAQ. It really does not make sence that SW, BA, & SM can all have 10 models in their termie squads so why not DA. Oh well, once again to Jervis Johnson I say "from hell's hart I stab at thee", and don't ever touch another codex again.

What do you think is the maximum amount?

Basically as many as you can take. The only thing that needs to be considered is how badly you want some melta weaponry in the army. Generally, dreads or landspeeders are used and considered passably within theme; attack bikes are also viable but inevitably add a Ravenwing vibe.

Yeah, I agree. Taking 47 terminators is pretty expenive, but 25 can be reasonable, I think. Maybe. Depends on the points. I can take thirty in my CSM army, and I want to buy more anyway, so I hope the legions codex shakes up the FOC

Would five Pairs of LC in a Termie squad with a Cyclone do well?

Yeah, either that or 5x TH SS with a CML. Depends what youre going up against

Well, I think I am going with 3 LC, and 2 TH/SS. Gives me more of a variety, and 4+ Invul. in CC.

Whoa man, you have got to check out the FAQ for DA! It will change your world-view.

Storm Shields are now 3++ and CML's are 2 shot missile launchers, just like the rest of the SM codex's. SS are so helpful for durability, you almost have to have at least one per squad. So add a CML to your 2 TH/SS, 3 LC squad and you have a formidable CC unit that can shoot two missiles a turn!

Yes, I forgot to mention that I did. Maybe I need more TH/SS. Thanks.
