Hey guys,

So after a couple stressful weeks of school and commissions, I finally got a little break to let my brain relax with a model I picked up last week. Seeing all the new Necron models, I knew I had to pick up something, and, upon seeing some casting errors on the Trazyn the Infinate model at my FLGS, I opted for a standard Overlord.

First off, I hate the pose he comes in outta the kit. He looks like he's tucking the Resurrection Orb like a football, and the Warscythe is sticking really far off his base. This simply wouldn't do. So, with a little cutting and some minor Greenstuffing, I made the post practical, yet dynamic. Some time and a coat of Matte Varnish later...

Hand's magnetized, in case you don't want to run a Resurrection Orb on your Overlord!

I think the cloak/sempinternal weave is the one thing I'm not super happy with, it looks too washed out. My painting style doesn't rely on washes, but I like to use them to modify metals, so it kinda looks off.

A really easy addition, all the Ever-Living counter is is a a Wooden ring glued to a 25mm base. I then primed it black and did my marbling technique on it! Easy peasy! The runes down the side help establish what the counter is.

This is the first part in a planned For Sale Necron army I'm hoping to have finished by January, so if anyone's interested, keep an eye on the blog! As usual, C&C is appreciated! I know the cloak looks off, as I said lol.

Thanks,
Granesh

Thank you. Seriously, thank you.

I havent played new Necrons a ton of times. But everyone uses a stray dice for the counters. And invariably winds up picking up that dice and rolling it as part of some shooting volley. Then there is the question of "Oh, how many counters did I have again? I think it was six!" "Uh, no, it was 3." "No, no, I think it was 6!"

So thank you for using something not a dice for your counters. And it looks good too! Even if you don't want to make more, you could put some sort of flat thing on that counter to hold a dice, that wouldn't be likely to be picked up, etc.

The paintjob looks good too, by the way! Necron and counter. High end tabletop. Two thumbs up and such.

Why thank you gentlemen!

@Ivan: The counter was a second thought while I was finishing the Overlord. I'm rather happy with it, and they're extremely easy to make! Just gotta find more wooden rings...
As for the paintjob, I'm always aiming for high end tabletop, if not a little more, so thanks!

@StasisNid95: Why thank you! Debating if a Monolith done up like the marble would be good or too much...hmmm...

@Tarnish: Thanks man! The marble are easily my favorite part, and it'll make an overarching army appearance when I get to the whole force!

Debating on picking up a Cryptek or a base Lord next time I'm at the shop...decisions, decisions....

Have you considered adding some patina to the metal?

You don't have to do "rust" like everyone else does--verdigris would look far, far better in this case.

Agreed on the patina thing. Maybe a few very thin washes of Hawk Turquoise?

@Kanluwen and Feldenglas: I was thinking about the patina effect on these guys, it would definitely give them the weathered, older effect, without taking away from the Greens.
Hawk Turquoise and Thraka Green would work fine, though I'm thinking now that I'll keep my Lords and Crypteks cleaner, and really do the effect on the Warriors and lesser-beings. My roommate had the same idea, so it'll definitely happen on some of the models!

Hoping to pick him up a Command Barge and a Lord tomorrow to join his Royal Court!

I can definitely assure you that Hawk Turquoise works best.

If you can get some Scaly Green or Orkhide Shade, they work as well for varying shades of patina.

@Kanluwen: Yep, I've always had good results for Verdigris using Hawk Turquoise. Debating on picking up that box of Warriors or a Command Barge, so I may get to see how the effect turns out

I'll keep you all posted!

You know what I've recently had some success with as well?

Heavily water down Dark Angels Green, mix in some dish washing soap and you can get an eerie green glow for bits.

Here's an example, set in spoilers so as not to steal the focus from your fantastic Overlord.

@Kanluwen: Excellent idea, I do have some DA Green sitting around I believe, I may have to try it out on the Command Barge.

Yep, decided to go with the Command Barge, and turned the plastic Overlord into a standard Lord (again, magnetized) to start bulking out his Royal Court!

@Theofilos: Thanks man!

Should I have some time open up in the next couple of weeks between school, commissions, and life, I'll be getting the Command Barge all knocked out!
