I heard yesterday that Sallies have special rules not detailed in the 5th Ed codex under Vulkan? The one the guy said was the Sallies can "choose to fight another round after the game has ended on T7 or if ended by a die roll. He said there were others. Anybody know anything about this or where I could find more info? Is it an ancient n'er updated codex? A White Dwarf from the 90s?

Thanks
G

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

I think the person who told you that was trollin' you. The only rules I know of are Vulkans.

There was an Index Astartes article on Salamanders.

The only part I can remember is they were I 3

I think he might mean the armageddon codex. in that they had I3 but i also believe that is one of the traits from 4th ed SM codex. Some mix-up perhaps?

Funny enough I was talking about these yesterday, playing my first game of 5th ed in a store. Yup the 3rd ed rules for Sallies gave them the option to extend the game another turn if they wished. The 4th ed codes gave them that option but imposed the ability to chose to extend to the opponent as well/ The 3rd ed rules also limite4d the army to essentially one each of fast attack choice, free thunder hammers to chaplains, initiative 3, a then unique no instant death cloak, anti melta tank shielding, cheaper terminators with a different mix of options, an avenger like librarian power, the ability to take two special weapons in tac squads, the ability for any character to take artificer armor and signums plus cheaper master crafting, and automatically passing all on your own tests. Hmmm, I think thats it, did it off the top of my head. I really loved that list.

It was a list out of Codex Armageddon, or an IA article (can't remember which).

Basically all Salamanders Space Marines were Int 3. Their veteran Sgts could take Master-Crafted Weapons. They had a Salamander Mantel that made the character immune to instant death. They liked Thunder Hammers and could get them more easily on characters and Vet Sgts. Their Terminators were only 37pts each back when they ran between 42 and 44pts depending on the codex in question. They were also the first Marine book back in 3rd edition that allowed you to take a 2nd special weapon in your Tactical Squads instead of a heavy weapon. They were also the first marines able to take multi-meltas as heavy weapons in their tactical squads (it used to be just Hvy. Bolters, Missile Launchers, or Lascannons for tactical squads). They could take an upgrade on their tanks that denied melta weapons the extra d6 for AP.

They had a special rule that yes, they could ALWAYS choose to fight an extra turn even after the game ended, which generally meant Turn 7, as this was back before random game length in basic scenario.

However, due to the gravic instability of their home planet, they didn't like employing things like Jump Packs and Land Speeders, and because of this Assault Squads and Land Speeder Squadrons of all types were 0-1 in the army.

It was a fun list, but that was more than a decade ago.
