I'm more than an avid 40k player, by all means not a WAAC type. I've recently picked up Orks, maybe 60-90 days ago, after cleaning them up and getting the army fully WYSIWYG I decided to play in a local tourney last month. I came in First with an interesting list that proves to be a hard nut to crack, however the store does Hard Scoring points in addition to the win/loss points of Sportsmanship; Painting; Fluff.

I got 10/10 for sports, however I got 0/10 for painting and 0/5 for fluff. When there are only 3 rounds and scores are around 65 points for first place ...

Well this week I've gotten alot of my army painted up, from 5% to well over 60% and I was thinking thats a huge improvement. Low and Behold 3rd Place with a 0/10 in painting and a 0/5 in fluff. I think it was 68 First, 66 Second, 62 Third. It's good to know I can be a damned good general and nerf myself to get top three, we use VP for Tie breakers and the store owner likes to boast about how many I get, Typically doubling the second highest...

I got to Play against a Mech Guard list running 2 Manticores, Yay for my Big Mek.

Second round was Blood Angels, he was playing cautiously. He's a newer player, with a hard hitting list but he thought my Mek would be similar to green tide. He didn't really have much for AV 14 that he wanted to throw away. We actually tied on KP here, yet VP was the breaker and I had him by almost double. like 1200 to 612 or abouts.

Third rounds are always a blast, normally I'm sitting pretty in First though. Today I was in second at this point, which meant I played 4th place as 1st plays 3rd. Good thing my bud was playing SW and was in First and I didn't wanna thump him again.
So I wind up playing a person who had never thrown the dice in 40k before today, he was 2-0 and I felt bad for him. 3x Tac squads MG, MSL, Rhino, Lysander, 2x Assault termies mixed LC/TH-SS 3-2 and 2-3. 2x LandRaiders. he was the "filler" and had been whooping people all day lol (too funny)
Manage to Deffrolla both his Raiders on turn3, and so far he has done nothing to me. By than he had a tac squad left, and 2 termie squads. Manage to kill all the termies in a whole game turn of assault with 2x 19 boyz + nob squads and 2x 12 man w/nob squads.

For his first time he did amazingly, however he kept forgetting stuff so I kept allowing him to go back into another phase to fix it. well until the last turn, didnt truly matter by than.

well, typically you always score 0/10 at tournaments unless your 100% painted, and I kinda agree with that. If its your first army, then your probably not experienced enough to play in tournaments until your painted up anyway, and if its your second, just play your first army until your second is painted.

Tournaments lose a LOT of appeal to me and many other players if its exactly the same as friendly games, but with prizes attached. A tournament, IMO and in the opinion of those in my area, is a place to showcase well-painted armies, that have well-rounded and interesting forces.

I'd say at pretty much most tournaments you'd score a 0/10 for painting with only 60% painted models, and again at most tournaments you'd score 0/5 fluff or comp if your running a battlewagon spam army w/ mek.

Glad you had fun, but those scores are not atypical :(

Just getting my rant out, The "fluff" is not a comp whatsoever it's something I chose not to do. It's writing a short story on why your army is fighting lol. Just didn't have the time otherwise it's a free 5 points.

My Boyz are all painted, wagons/trukks just need the rollas finished and highlights done. Lootas painted, nobz painted, only thing that wasn't was some gretchen I was trying out.

Now I say 60% because I wanna strip down my boyz and repaint them. Also stuff I'm not using in my lists are not painted, burnas, ghaz, more nobz, etc.

He wants to do A comp score, however noone would get the bonus so he decided against it.

Orks are more along the lines of my 6th army, however I traded/sold off my Fully painted ones, and my friend was using the other almost finished one. Mind you the paint was about the same % and he was scored a 7/10 IIRC. He talked to me afterwards and said he was harsh on me, which is understandable as it stinks when 1 person wins all the time.

Hang on you have to submit a short story or some such get a fluff score?

I hope i am reading that wrong painting scores are bad enough (altho I think you should be painted for a tourny) but to make someone sit own and write some terrible fan fiction is just plain cruel...and the worst thing is that this sorta thing encourages folk to want tell you the back story to there army Id rather bugger myself with a broken bottle then listen to fan fiction.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

Jubear, I think your reading it wrong.

I think by "fluff", he means "subjective army composition".

Oh thank god for that.

I thought comp scores for 40k was a stupid thing only us aussies seemed to do.

I always liked the "its a tourny dont be a girly man and bring a hard list" way of dealing with comp.

No Jubear had it right, you're expected to write "fluff" it's not Comp it's grammatical fluff you are supposed to write. Store owner gets a good laugh out of it I guess

/cringes That is straight up the most slowed tourny scoring I have ever herd off. And what kind of store owner (or anyone) wants to sit down and read a ton of fan fiction and then try and rate it? Mine would begin like this "once there was a gaming store and its owner had special needs" and prolly end with 3 or 4 paragraphs of content lifted straight from a dirty book (can you still get those?) Also around the middle there would be a pornographic sketch of me making love to the store owners wife. Ill teach him to make me writefluff just to get some games in.

*hey I found a new word that the word filter has a problem with =)
