Boom! Leman Russ Commander

I'm a gamer and I'm a painter. I do both, Painting to help me improve the atmosphere of my games, and gaming to make me think my painting isn't wasted work.
To that end, my models are always painted fairly well, but are built to be played with.
One of the things I do often in this endeavour is leave my tanks partially unbonded.
... what? You must be asking.
Well, when I put my tanks together, I glue the wheely parts [a rhino is my example] and tracks together, and that's about it. The underhull slots into those four slats on the sides of the tank, and the back hatch fits into its two hinges, and then the top holds the model together when it is put in place. The drivers compartment just fits into place.
So, Every time I do this, I get a load of questions basically saying the same thing 'how did you do that?' when my tanks have blown up. [and are subsequently in pieces.]
Its kinda hard to make people understand that I literally do nothing.
Does this sound so ridiculous to you?

id do that, but ig vehicles dont stay together without glue...especially valkyries and all my ork vehicles are made from monopeice toys (and subsequently orkified) and dont need glue (save for adding orky bits)

Makes sense to me. As jordanis said, Guard tanks are harder to do this with without them constantly falling apart, but I've taken to using magnets and pinning to make a tank that can be broken down. This allows for weapon destroyed and wrecked results to be represented and for a selection of weapon mounts to be used. Also helps for transporting them.
My friend (who goes by Sattamassagana on here) has built a Baneblade that can be configured with every possible build option using a similar method. Six tanks for the price of one.

I did that with my two vehicles. My Russ doesn't have the sides glued to the main hull, they just press in (tank immobilized) and I kept the bottom of the main turret unglued (again it just pops in like a bad lego, or a megablock) so that I can switch between any of the cannons. My valkyrie doesn't have the wings glued, which anyone who has a valk would realize is far from preposterous, the things slides pretty far into the main model.

I tend to magnetize the heck with everything. I paint a lot more than I can play and I hate the idea if ll that beautiful interior work being forever hidden.
I have also always hated the idea choosing one configuration, or even one pose, so I typically magnetize to a ridiculous degree

This is a good idea. I've started magnetising bits so they can easily be removed/changed although I haven't gone as far as having tanks I can pull to bits!

I've tried it with some vehicles, but I think i've just had bad luck, because nothing sits well enough to hold together without glue; the only things I don't bother to glue are the engines on my Devilfish and Hammerheads, rhinos and the likes just seem to fall inwards whenever you take your eyes off them, so they're all glued, can't be bothered fussing around with magneets.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Business as usual.
Many people do this, in the rare circumstances where there's a tourneyplayer who is at an event and does not enjoy the transparent method of declaring what is in where, those guys usually have them either marked, or ready-to-disassemble with paper notes inside.
People do this all the time around here, because:
It can save (lots) of space!
My Eldar tanks however are not built like this.
I keep modelled and painted markers around for the purpose of having wrecks or craters.

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body! |

This seems quite intriguing, and as someone who'll be assembling a bunch of SM tanks in the very near future, I'd love to see some pics of this.

The first Rhino i built I had such a hassle gluing properly. I pieced am immolater together for a friend last week almost entirely glue free and was surprised at how well it snapped together after some filing.

Works well with things such as the ork battlewagon. Means i can choose between open top/ close top, kannon or zzap gun, and generally most of the other options available on the battlewagon.
Plus, it makes for super easy carrying.

It was the other kit, Stormlord et al. Although I haven't used any magnets, really should get some it would make things a lot easier.

Would literally never have considered this.
My experience however with LRs and Leman Russes has not been pleasant.
Very interesting.
