I was in a tourny last night. We were allowed to deploy 1 HQ and 2 troop choices. No problem with my HQ, but should I have been able to deploy my Inf. Plt.(plt.cmd, 3x10 man sqds) and its hvy weapon squads as 1 of my troop choices and a squad of vets as the other? I'm a little unsure on this.

Guess it was a Dawn of War Deployment?

It allows you to deploy up to 1 HQ and 2 Troop Units IIRC not FOC slots.

Mind you a Platoon is composed of several units.

So would my 35 man platoon and 2 heavy weapons squads counted as 1 troop choice?

Nope that would be 3 units... You can effectively deploy 3 kill points. So IC's count as 1, vehicle squadrons count as 1, infantry units count as 1, dedicated transports count as 1... the list goes on...

Choice /= Unit.

While the Platoon (Infantry squads, PCS, 2xHWT) are a single choice, they are NOT a single unit - they are 4 - 6, depending on if you blob them into a unit of 30 or leave them as 3 x 10 men units.

While you didnt specify, I assume you were playing DoW deployment, which if you carefully read your rulebook states you can deplpy 2 Troop UNITS and 1 HQ UNIT, not choices.

So then my 35 man platoon and 1 hvy weapon squad (mortars). Would I be able to use 2 chimeras in there as dedicated transports? 1 for PCS and 1 for HQ (but not have them in it)?

No, because the transports are also units as described in the example for Dawn of War in the main rulebook.

If by "35 man platoon" you mean:

3x10 infantry
1x5 PCS

then NO, theyre not a single unit, you can NEVER combine the PCS with the Infantry squads - read the squad blob rule again in your codex.

ALL vehicles are units in and of themselves, even if they dont take up a FOC choice (dedicated transports, for example) - they are still a unit.

So as soon as you put down the chimeras, you would have:

1 x 30 man infantry blob squad - 1 unit
1 x PCS - 1 unit
1 x HWT - 1 unit
2 x chimera - 2 units.

5 units in total, when youre allowed 2 + 1 HQ unit

Another question on the deployment then.
When deploying the troops, do I NEED to deploy the PCS with the combined squad, or can I have the PCS come in later?

You could deploy the blob and pcs, the blob and the hws, the combination of what two units you deploy is up to you (so long as they are 2 troops and 1 hq max)
