I have been looking at fantasy for a while now, and my friend has started to look into starting also. so we decided we would both finally pick up an army. he has settled on high elves, and I am going with Chaos Demons. I'm tired of being the good guy, or at least i'd like to play a chaos army. so I'd like to know are Chaos Demons easy to learn for a newb to WHFB. I've played 40k for quite some time so i'm not new to Wargames in general so just looking to see if anyone has suggestions for a list. I'm thinking about Chaos undivided for more flexibility. anyone have tactics/ things to watch out for or unit ideas please let me know

They are good a Herald of Tzeentch with Master of Sorcery is an awesome caster. I'd avoid the battalion to start, grab 3 boxes of bloodletters and 2 boxes of horrors, 2 boxes of flamers something to use as a herald of tzeentch and herald of khorne, this will get you through 1k maybe 1250, as you expand add a 2nd block of blood letters and maybe more horrors and a 2nd Herald of Tzeentch. Due to the 25% cap on lords you really can't use one of the greater deamons until 2k+

Thanks, the battalion looked nice at first but it appears to just be core units, buying separately will allow more customization. unless I play to use 4 of the five units in the battalion ill stick with separate boxes. I'll grab the army book and have a look through first. thanks!

I've done a bit of cruising on the various web sites and there's a pretty big consensus on Daemons it seems.

-Bloodletters are one of the premier infantry Cores in the game. Just about all the other Daemon Core are substandard except in very specific instances.
-Herald of Tz with Master of Sorcery is a solid caster for solid points. In fact, he's basically your only caster that's not a crazy expensive Lord.
-Daemon Princes are very overpriced. They are also worse in every way to their WoC counterpart, which is odd.
-Skulltaker, Masque, Blue Scribes can add some variety in terms of heroes and they're fairly cheap.
-Bloodcrushers are one of the premier elite cavalry in the game.
-Flamers are one of the premier elite ranged units in the game.
-Almost no Nurgle units are worth a damn except maybe a buffed up Greater Unclean One.
-There is a huge gulf between basic Heroes and worth-the-points Lords. A decent Hero costs 150, a decent lord can run you 550. Taking a non-decent Lord is fairly suicidal unless it's a Bloodthirster.
-Khairos is probably the only Special Character Lord worth it.

I've spent a lot of time researching them and coming up with strategies lately. IMHO they lack a lot of variety at low or medium points. Strangely, they aren't very good at magic (even though they come from the land of magic). What they got going for them is a handful of really kickass units, universal ward saves, universal unbreakability (though unstable), and a few wacky rules and units who can throw down monkey wrenches. And cool fluff.

More than any other race you need to know what point level you're likely to be playing at.

Plague Bearers can be used. However in order to have a reasonable chance of them not getting auto killed with I spells I would make sure that your herald is running Lore of Light. This being said, the lore works really well in the army.

Oherwise for the most part Duke has it dead on.
