I'm thinking of doing a mixed regiment with steel legion + death korps depleted units (full of fluff) but I noticed that the death korps models appear significantly taller from forge world than the steel legion from the games workshop collector's site. Is it just a trick of the camera and they are the same size? Or do I have to go about chopping down kneecaps on the death korps to get them relatively the same height? Also thinking of swapping out some lasguns from Elysia sprue, would that be possible with some of the forgeworld/old steel legion models? (Heard that the steel legion were all metal but can't seem to confirm)

Different size, yes steel legions are metal.

The FW miniatures are in a finer truer scale than Games Workshop's figures. My Death Korps are of a similar enough height to my Cadians, but they are a lot thinner and finer. The Cadians, by comparison, look like an army full of fat men.

If you don't mind such a variation of proportions then go for it. I wouldn't bother with cutting off kneecaps or anything as your main problem is just the physical size of them, not their height.

They may differ in size, but I think it can make sense. I think its completely feasible that humans who were raised on different planets with different gene pools would be different sizes. A lot of things could affect their overall size like gravity, diet, and environment. Look at species of animals here on earth including humans, could be the same species but develop differently in different environments. I actually think there would be more variation in human features and size than what is represented in different IG armies.

You'll be surprised by the size difference, as in minimal.

Here's a comparison picture for you.

EDIT:// Changing the lasguns to the FW elysian ones will be a major headache for modifying Steel Legion units since the lasguns are actually molded to the body of the model itself, so you need to hack away at both the arm, lasgun and body to replace it.

Have a look on ebay for "Warzone" models, made by Prince August in Ireland. For a foolishly small amount of money you get 80 troops for about £20, 2 groups of 40 each.

One lot comes with British style helmets, gas masks and similar-to-a-lasrifle, the other lot has Germanic spiked helmets, and armed with what appear to be over & under shotguns--these are pretty good Krieg stand ins, I reckon.

Stop Press, I just had an email saying they're on special offer at 20 for £0.99p!

See Prince August website, under Warzone/Chronopia, or Moulds & minis on ebay.
