Hey Dakka,
I am wondering what the best wargear options for a BA HG is.
I was thinking for a DoA list 4 Meltaguns would be best and for a Mech list 4 plasmaguns.
What does everyone else think?

I used to run 4 meltaguns with my DoA. I found it was overkill with the other 6 meltas in my list. I've switched to plasma and found them much more effective. It gives longer range firepower, MC killing ability and lots more shots for killing marines.

I like the sound of Plasma as the rest of my BA's have pleny of Melta. MC's are always nice to drop early and not worry about in CC.
Did you ever have a problem with Gets Hot?

Plasma out melta plus storm shield. You can drop in and defend against rounds if return fire while the rest if your army us basically ignored. Only problem is it gets expensive.
in a DOA list having a banner is nice too.give morale rerolls.

I dont agree with the banner.....it would be better to not have rerolls. Especially with JP's. You retreat 3 D6, can shoot while falling back, and cant be destroyed if caught.
I am also unsure as to what you mean by Plasma out melta plus SS. Could you please clarify?
Thanks

4 meltas and 4 flamers is cheap and good.
4 plasmas however is what I would take to tournament to give you 24'' of shooting when you needed.

I'm messing around with the quad flamer and quad melta HG. The flamers suffer from being redundant. One thing a Jump BA army already does well is butcher light infantry. The quad plasmaguns seems like it'd be nice since the FNP greatly reduces the risk of losing HG to overheats, but I'm still not too keen on having to move them within 12" and not being able to assault after firing.

I have to agree with most people here who say the quad plasma gun is the way to go. It is relatively cheap (haha) but it brings a MEQ killing unit into play. The priest also gives them a 3+/4+ against overheat. Combine this with Dante (if thats your thing) and they can come down anywhere without scattering!

Honour Guard are a flexible troubleshooting unit, they are effective no matter how you build them really (assuming you don't do anything stupid like putting both rapid fire weapons and heaps of assault upgrades on them etc) but generally you build them to fill a gap in your list. 4 x Melta to kill heavy vehicles, 4 x Plasma to kill heavy infantry/MCs, 4 x Flamer (usually combined with Meltas for duality, easier places to get flamers otherwise) for anti horde, combat load out (a TH/PF + a SS or 2) to tackle elite units in assault, minimal loadout without JPs to get another Razorback (and provide FNP bubble etc) are all effective.
In practice there is no 'best' loadout in this case, you just need to play a few games and work out what your list needs.

I meant plasma or melta. Spell check decided to help me out.
Taking back 3d6 means you can be off the board. This is why a banner is helpful. Also if you assault you want to stay in combat until your turn then you can choose to fall back. Or just have an extra attack and be done with it.

2 meltaguns, 3 storm shields and JPs. Throw them down right next to the parking lot and rip some metal apart. I usually throw in dante (sang guard are my troops) and put them in the juiciest section. As long as you don't roll poorly on saves, that unit should be tough to kill.
Hi enemy, deal with these invulnerable saves or lose your vehicles. The choice is yours.
