Good evening DakkaDakka,

just wanted to ask what you guys think about this topic.

I am now 35 years old and been playing, painting and collecting (more painting and collecting due to 2 kids) Wh40k for the last 18 years or so. And finally I have to say I do not want to have another race re-done by GW.

Please guys give us something new !!!! (well I could live with Squats to be re-done because I do not think many people remember )

So what are you thinking about it ??? New race ??? Ideas ???

Please comment !!!

they started it all

sorry to be unprecise but i havent counted points for years - promise to do it !

Yes! New Race!

Let's have it take even longer for updates to get released!

I'd be for a shrinking before adding more, like, getting rid of the Space Marine variants. Think, what would have been nicer, those two Space Marine codexes (BA and SW) or having an updated Tau and Sisters?

I'd be all for a Eldar exodite codex. Elves riding dinosaurs! Hooooo!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ooo, or maybe something like in Warmahordes and their mercenaries.

Imperial Mercenaries, units that can be used in any imperial codex, and xenos mercenaries, units that can be used in any xenos codex (with some stipends here and there, mainly for necrons and Tyranids, who wouldn't use them. Tau and Eldar sure would though!)

Actually I thought of something really new...

A complete new race challenging the universe we love so much, and please don“t let it be space rats on the prowl for some greenish glibbery stone or so

Space dragons, an Elder race of lizard like nomads coming from another Galaxy, mortal enemies to Tyranids, mainly around to stop them, and claim the galaxy as their own.

Heavy emphasis on monsterous units, mostly organic with a few heavy tanks. Theme is a mixture of gothic and mayan, focus on elite units over hordes.

Although I do like the idea of a new race in 40k (I like my fluff) I think that GW are struggling to keep up with the number of Codecies that they already have really.

I think that there is no way they would be able to make a new codex without dropping an existing one and even then you'd still be stuck with the same problem of keeping up with the codecies. As Namica says, maybe drop some of the existing Marine Codecies.

I also think that if they were to do an entirely new book it should be an entirely new race. Eldar Exodites would be ok, but this wouldn't be adding as much to the fluff as much as an entirely new race would be.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

I think they could add a new race, but first it has to fill a niche that an existing race DOESN'T fill.

But I'd be all for a trimming of the number of Space Marine codexes out there. How about a REAL codex: Space Marine? One tome that includes the rules for creating ANY SM chapter (BA, DA, SW, etc). You could do it up like the IG codex of old, with doctrines, or like the new one that has a plethora of special characters that unlock the ability to change your army composition.

As for a new race, I'd like to see something fill the hole left by the Squats... A tough army with flak armor and a mix of shooty and hand to hand combat options.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

I have to agree that they need to cut down the number of marine codici before they can do anything new.

That said, I honestly think it would be better for the game in the long run if they did cut down on the marines. One SM codex that did all the chapters would be fine. A "mega codex" of sorts. They could even use it as an excuse to bump up the page count and charge more.

If they did that they would free up enough room in their release schedule to experiment a bit.

IMO it would be better if they switched to a system like that.

Step 1: Flood the schedule with one type of army.
Step 2: Compress said army into a "mega codex"
Step 3: GoTo step 1 but with a different army

Yes it would, at it's worst, be as bad as the 4th edition release schedule where it's just wall-to-wall one-kind-of-army, but at least then you'd have the knowledge that once they were done you wouldn't have to look at them again for a long time to keep you warm at night.

As it stands we just got though a mess of marine-nonmarine-marine-nonmarine.

...When 6th edition hits we get to do it all over again.

I hate marines. I'm ****ing sick of marines.

Wake. Rise. Destroy. Conquer.
We have done so once. We will do so again.

First I agree at shrinking the current number of books out there..primarily in the Space Marine dept. That being said, off and on I've played around with creating a army fandex based around a psychic race that hammers armies through leadership manipulation and short to mid-range shooting. Basicly their physical stats are horrendous, but can buff themselves through various powers, while also being able to debuff the opposition and force leadership and morale checks.

right behind you

The only problem I have with the mega codex marines is that I play vanilla dex for my crimson fists. So if they rolled up all the codici into one big old codex it would be like $50 id have to pay while everyone else was still only having to pay $30. How about compress the special chapters in to say codex divergent marines so its still covers all you non codex marines with the same amount of pages that a normal codex would have then you still free up time and space for a new race of..insert favorite idea here...codex

I would like to see an entire army that is ogre sized. But alien, not ogryn. Riding about on giant hoverbikes as fast attack. The standard troops would be tough and durable. Maybe their vehicles would be large 4 legged walkers. They also wouldn't be dum like ogryns. I guess basically Ogres in space. So their wanderlust theme being an important part in the fluff and how they arrived in the galaxy. Instead of harnessing giant beasts they would be technologically inclined like the squats. Hence the hover bikes and walking tanks. I would also like to think that their jump troops would gain impact hits on the charge. Fairly importantly their leaders prove their worth by beating up the biggest creature they can find. So the leaders would have so kind advantage fighting monstrous creatures/HQ.

Importantly they should be ogre sized but look alien. Kind of like the dorian clawed fiend crossed with a ogryn.

Cheers.

The Jokaero?

They're tech-savvy orangutans. Outside of their technical brilliance (apparently a genetic trait put there by the Old Ones), they're animals.

All roads lead to Tau.

Brilliant idea! A race of aliens that allow other aliens to fight under one banner.

Imo, keep adding races to the Tau each codex!

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

Heh.. my meager 2 cents: New race = Slann!

Bring the Lizard Men from fantasy to 40k.. Rework them so that the 4 old breeds (Slann, Saurs, Skink, Kroks) are all interbred down into one mid-size race,
with maybe some genetic tampering that matches older fluff.. younger slann are smaller, faster, sneaker (ie skink), mature more along the lines of Saurs, larger, tougher, but slower..
While a rare few ancient ones grow into Dreadnought sized beasts capable of ripping the turrents off of tanks or develop vast psychic abilities..

Have both a Warrior and a major Psycker HQ choice, along with some junior officer types..
Unique weaponry that feels Old World style.. Firearms that project flechettes or darts, coated with poison.. A few variations of this to cover the basic ranges/types and throw in some other options for technology/weaponry that fit their culture..

How to make their army feel unique.. Weaponry that both look and act different from what we normally see.. Even if its only in minor ways..
Make their psychic or racial abilities use Terrain or Time/Space flow..
If rumors are true that 6th ed. will bring out more terrain elements to the game, the slann's ability to move thru water without penalty might add a dimension to that level of game play. More than a few units have the ability to Move thru Woods, so this wouldn't unbalance anything.

I just remember the older Rogue Trader back in the late 80s that actually showed a "Slann Warrior" miniature and while more froglike that lizard like, at least the concept is out there..
That same book had some cool psychic abilities that could be translated into the newer systems.. Mind Control! Terrain moving! Heck, borrow some ideas from other sources.. The Rogue Psycker in the old SoB codex had the ability to make a target unit roll an entire round of Close Combat on ITSELF before the normal Assault took place.

This is one of the problems i see with GW is that sometimes they seem afraid to use resources they already have. Instead, they feel the need to try to reinvent the wheel every few months, only to discover that its still round and rolls down hill....

I still wanna see an adeptus mechanicus codex.

Is it wrong for me to want to model some Skitari legionnaires?

I think you guys are right - one codex for Marines and an extra race (or maybe two....) would be great.

We should post your ideas directly to GW arrest them and tell them we only let them out again, after they gave us what we want....

Maybe great for christmas ;-)

The one codex space marines is something I've thought would make more sense for a while now.

I think some kind of true insectoid race would be interesting...
