There seems to be so many people on here playing/thinking about Flames of War (not a company I like, they seem to have the same ethics of Games Workshop, that is squeezing all the money out a customer then dumping them, anyway that's just my opinion)
anyway has anyone heard of/play Rapid Fire? these rules are for 20mm (a controversial scale if there ever was one) and 15mm, they leave you to source your own models (normally I go for SHQ Minatures or Pegasus models.
In my opinion the rules get across the feeling of WW2 better and are easier to play (No hundreds or tiny little speical rules to remember) and are much much cheaper, £20 for the main book and about £15 for the supplements, which you do not need to play the specific theaters of WW2?
they can be a bit simplistic though, generalising infantry a lot and bieng heavilly orientated to vehicle combat.
So anyone play it?

Played it since 1994...
Its simplistic as its a fast-play battalion level game.
Not sure why 20mm is controversial... Been around longer than most, its the orignal size for WW2.
But then I run the 20mm WW2 gaming forum - www.guildwargamers.com - So Im very biased...

lol i didn't know there was a 20mm forum, it is my favorite scale shall have a nosey!
The 'Controversial' side to the 20mm scale...is it 1/72 or 1/76? it's a modelling thing really, and even though it's a small difference, it's a difference, one of my panthers is a king tiger in size comparason to the rest of my army and airifx have 1/76 vehicles and figures and 1/72 planes, which is a bit odd.
the picture has a valiant 1/72 model on the left and an airfix 1/76 model on the right yet both have claim to '20mm'.
ok i bieng a real scale geek now!

Neither 'claim' to be 20mm.
Valiant claim to be 1/72nd, which is 25mm toe to eye... Which they are, and thus dont fit with anything as they are also chunky too. They do fit in with Raventhorpe stuff which is also big.
Airfix is 1/76th bordering on 1/87th... The small end.
20mm is neither 1/76th or 1/72nd as its not a scale... Its a size. It was purposely done to allow the figures to fit with both 1/76th and 1/72nd models.
Most resin makers use 1/76th for their models, while most plastic kits have moved to 1/72 these days apart from the Revell releases of old Matchbox stuff. Airfix is just plain hideous apart from the ex-JB Models kits.
Our forum is here...

You will need to register to see the thousands of images. We have some of the top 20mm painters and most of the actual manufacturers on there.
I have a blog too...

That makes sense, I always thought with 20mm the companies were fighting each other with whichever scale was the better, like betamax and VHS or something.
you just turned my view of 20mm around in one post!
I agree with the airfix comment too.
Edit: Pretty models too!
