Ok, people discuss a lot about "counting as" and proxy in warhammer and 40k, there is a bunch who say "i dont care" (like me), and another bunch who say "that will kill the hobby".

My question here is about other games around, how would you react if, when starting a game of warmachines, your oponet used an army of "count as Khador" Mantic Dwarfs (well converted and painted). Or when playing Infinity, the oponent team was a (well converted) Inquisitorial Henchman Warband?

I think it is just ok as in 40k: could i tell what every unit/model is and what it can/should do, them that is fine. Better if the opponent army is beutifully converted and full of nice original ideias . What about you guys?

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
My take on Demiurgs (enjoy the reading):

Please, if you think im wrong, correct me (i will try to take it constructively).

I mean as long as the proxy is close in resemblance to what they are standing in for most people do not care one way or the other. I just think that when you are proxing for something that is not close from one game to the next then it raises some questions. Such as a Dwarf standing in for a jack.

Well, with infinity, unless you're playing in an official sanctioned tournament, it doesn't matter as long as the figures are representative (no using SM as LI figures, for example).

The rules are free for that game.
So are the army lists.
This allows you to proxy your hearts out to learn the rules.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

As long as they are essentially WYSIWYG then I don't care what figs you use in what games.

If it's painted and looks relatively like what it is supposed to be then I don't care.

Note that the definition that you present (and the one I'm using in my reply) of WYSIWYG models converted to represent different units is not the usuall definition of Proxy or Counts-as. What your describing is simply using converted non GW models.

Proxy usually refer to models that do not accurately repsresent what they are being used as.

GW usually uses Counts-as to allow you to use older GW minis who do not have rules by using the rules for a current codex entry.
