I need some help on this weapon. The rule states that the bearer of the rod can't be effected by any psychic power friend or foe
does this mean that a squad of GK's can't activate there force weapons? If the model has joined the squad? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It does say "the bearer (and his sqaud) can not be affected by psychic powers (friendly or enemy) in any way." (page 57, Grey Knights codex)

It prevents Jaws of the World Wolf from working on them or any othe offensive psychic power. It also stops Hammerhand from working to buff their strength or even their force weapons from firing up for instant death goodness. Its pretty effective at stopping all manner of psychic powers in addition to being a power weapon.

The squad cannot use hammerhand, as it affects themselves, however they COULD use their Force Weapons - causing ID is not something that affects themselves.

They could still use their Force Weapons as they are a piece of Wargear for the GKs, they simply require a Psychic Test to activate, but are themselves not a Psychic Power.

Yes, they grant a psychic power, but the power does not target the user - it targets the victim.
