Newts Eye is what I use for thinning. I don't know about you people.
"Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! ... It’s become the promotions department of a toy company." -- Rick Priestly

Nice vid very usefull! i just happen to have some 2% milk right with me XD
But more seriously ive been trying to find the perfect blend of thinning and this will definitely help me, I was wondering if you could shed any light on using mediums?
Great video. As a very inexperienced painter, thinning is something I am struggling with right now, but I found your video exttemely helpful, especially with your great use of visial aids.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching more.

This was really helpful. As a beginning painter (finally assembled most of my models and began painting them around mid-January), I really struggled to understand how to thin my paints down and to what consistency.

Great video, very entertaining mixed with a healthy dose of explaining WHY it works better than straight out of the pot.
I do have one problem with this technique though, and is very clearly seen at about 11:50 in the video. The paint fluid pulls away from the bottom of the cup, leaving holes in the middle of the paint, and the paint recedes back along the edges.
One of the physical properties of water is that it wants to pull towards other droplets of water. Cohesion. It will pull towards the largest body of water around it. I'd go on about polar bonds and how water in zero-g will pull into a sphere, but tl;dr.
The fix? Use rubbing alcohol instead of water. It wont pull as hard to reform into a sphere, since there is a lopsided OH bond (alcohol) and blah blah blaHEY! Pay attention! Alcohol also evaporates faster than water, which means shorter drying times.
Test it out for yourself. Take a droplet of water and a droplet of alcohol, and put both on a plastic sheet. See how much higher the top of the curve in the water droplet sits compared to the alcohol's nice sag?

Your whole series has been indispensable for me. I'm at a place where I want to up my level, but I'm alone out here and am basically self-taught. This is shedding light on a lot of things I can and need to do different.
Bravo!

I have to say as someone new to the hobby as a whole this has been the only guide to thinning paint that has clicked for me. Reading never much did anything for explaining things for me, but actually showing me the 2% milk how it reacts and the like really helped me understand this.
I have been a from the pot painter with my small number of models I recently got and I was always dissatisfied with the end result. Now when I get more models to expand my army I think I can do better now understanding the the "Secret" Having seen it.
Kudos sir, I am off to buy a small thing of 2% from 7-11 to play with.
