Okay, how to start...

I have some SM that I wanted to build a chapter for awhile back. It consists of the AoBR Marines, Commander, Termies, and Dread. Then I have 6 old metal Scouts. A Metal SW commander. A converted Sigmar "Librarian", and 3 servitors.

This is a decent sized force, I suppose. But I was looking to build it up more. To get to the point, I have a LOT of IG, and I was wondering is there a way to combine them and run them as an army. Realizing this is for casual games, no tournaments or anything. I think it'd fit cool in the fluff i'm creating for my chapter.

A major question I have is, I have 5 IG with "jetpacks" that I modified. Would I use Rough Rider rules, or Assault Marine rules?
The reason why I think this isn't TOO bad of an idea, is that the Imperium is the Imperium is the Imperium. I dont doubt that someone has done this before.

Anyways, thanks!

There is no way to run them from the same codex. If you're playing Apocalypse, you could run stuff together as much as you wanted since the rules say you can. However, standard games of 40k have to have your army chosen from one codex and one codex only, with no mixing and matching.

As for jetpack IG, rough riders sound about right. They're obviously too small and weedy to be T4 3+ Space Marines. I've seen it done before and it can be okay.

Okay, cool.

Since there isn't 1 codex, would I just use IG rules for IG and SM rules for SM? This is for just messing around with and stuff, just to play against friends.

I made up a kind of roleplay/wargame setup that my friends and I like to play, so I wanted to incorporate this.

If they're okay with it, do whatever you want. If I were to do the two detachment thing, to keep things legal I'd make sure each army followed FOC and had 1 HQ + 2 Troops. Use IG rules for IG and SM rules for SM, I have no idea why you'd do otherwise.

Might upset some folk mate the biggest weakness of SMs is that they cost alot if they suddenly had access to cheap infantry and thus could bubble rap and entire gunline/firebase for less then 100pts....yeah not sure I would be cool with that.

I liken it too me asking if I could put some run some meltas in my ork list.

But I do sympathise with you wanting to collect IG and not wanting to have to wait for 6 months till you have the points for a decent game.

However anything goes if your opponent is happy with it.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

I understand that. And I'm not trying to run this is a store either. I'm not even an IG fan! hahaha I just liked the idea for fluff. I'll probably make it and paint them all up just for that.
But I can always just run my CSM army, I've got plenty of that haha

@Kaime - Thanks! Is it only for Armageddon, or all game sets?

Imperial Armor books are for any 40k you want, with the exception of superheavies which are Apocalypse only. Tournaments don't generally allow Forgeworld rules, but friendly games and most pick up games are a-okay.
