Alright so I've been noodling this one around in my head and while my gaming group has come to a general consensus of how it works I'd like to pose the question to a larger audience here:

When a cryptek splits off from the royal court to be the squad leader for Immortals or Warriors, do they then count as a troops choice or remain HQ? The only analogue we could find is the space wolves codex with wolf guard, and they do indeed count as troops if they're the only members left standing in a squad. (Which is rare to have only 1 member of a squad left standing, but it happens sometimes). With necrons, and the ever-living rule, it's far more possible that the cryptek's unit was wiped out (either via shooting, or assault, or what-have-you) and the cryptek comes back. As he was a part of a troops unit when they fell, does he remain to count as a scoring(troops) unit after he stands back up?

What say you, members of dakka?

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

If the Cryptek stands back up, then the Troop unit of Immortals or Warriors isn't dead, it's just down to the single model.

So, no KP is awarded, and the single model from a Troop unit can claim objectives.

Yep, I think you have to go with the Space Wolf ruling because its the closest thing we have to a clear indication on how to play it.

From my understanding of the rulebook only units from the actual troop choice are scoring units unless that unit has a special rule which the royal court doesn't
so if a member of the royal court is a sole survivor he wouldn't be able to claim an objective not to mention shouldn't he be fleeing off the table if he was the last one of that squad?

Edit: I just seen they have the 'character' rule =P

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

Yes, units from a Troop choice are scoring. A Cryptek that is given to that unit is a full member of the unit. So, even if all the Immortals/Warriors are killed, leaving only the Cryptek, it is still a unit of Immortals/Warriors, still a Troop unit, and still scoring.

And, he wouldn't be fleeing if he passes his Morale check.

A Cryptek is an independent character, right? Can't he join and leave the unit at will?

If so, then I don't think he would be a scoring unit, just like any non-scoring HQ that you join up with a unit of troops.

No, Crypteks are not ICs.

Thanks, we play it the same as wolf guard until the faq classifies differently.
