My son really likes 'nids. I'm getting a deal of 48 Hormagaunts, 48 Termagaunts and 12 Genestealers, where is a good place to go from here? Looking at like 1500 he really wants a Hive Tryrant, I've also read Tervigons are really nice.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

You'll need synapse for the army, and an HQ choice. To make the army legal you'll need an HQ, so I suggest a Hive Tyrant. Unfortunately, there's no model for the Tervigon, which would be another great choice. I would also get some Warriors to provide synapse to the army.

Pretty much just a swarm type army. Really don't want to spend more then $150 rounding out 1500.

While there is no Tervigon model, I've seen lots of people at my local store using Carnifexes as Tervigons (best use for a Carnifex nowadays...)

That was my idea, he is pretty much going to just be playing at home with me so no need for WYSIWYG, maybe 10 years down the road we can do a tourney together but until then, I am leaning that and a Hive Tyrant since he really wants one.

This is typically an adequate replacement.

For 1500, hive tyrants can get a bit pricey points wise, but honestly if your son wants it and it will interest him, I'd say get it

OP

For what you have this is a 1500 point list I would go for

Hive Tyrant w/ lash whip + Stranglethorn Cannon w/ armored shell w/ Leech Essence & Paroxysm psychic powers(**)
2x Hive guard (**)
11x Termagants
10x Termagants
1x Tervigon w/ cluster spines & Catalyst (use a carnifex to proxy)(**)
1x Tervigon w/ cluster spines & Catalyst (use a carnifex to proxy)(**)
10x Genestealer brood w/ toxin sacs
25x Hormagants with adrenal glades & toxin sacs
1x Trygon Prime(**)

I've added "(**) to the models you don't have so that would be your starting point.

Truthfully , nids are a fairly expensive army to start, but with that many gants/stealers, you have a good start!!

Total Finecast models purchased: 5
Total models without Finecast issues out of those purchased: 0

Get the tyrant if the kid likes it, thats the important thing really.

I heartily recommend for this collection a tyranid prime as hq. He can join any gaunt unit and would keep the core army together. Also in 1500pts a tyrant is a big investment when you ideally want guard as well.

Give the gaunts the devourers, honestly this bit of biogumpf is worth every point. 2x15 and 1 18. stick prime with 18 man.

H-gaunts 2x20, toxin sacs all the way. this will be a pain when backn up the tyrant.

Genestealers, keep these all together and add a broodlord.

1 box of nid warriors 2 make the broodlord and prime from and whatever big bug you want and thats 1500pts almost.

I also recommend the trygon as a much nicer bug to build, use and to own. However the fex box gives you the flexibility to make the tervigon.
