Ok, a local gamer plays IG has 1 squad with 2x Heavy Bolter and a ton of IG infantry. He put them all in cover and just shoot and kill everyone. That dishes out 30 shots at 12" and 18 shots at 24".

How can an SM player counter this? The typical Kill Team rule applied of course, i.e. no hq, no walker, no heavy support.

You walk up in your power armor laughing at his Str 3 lasguns and burn them out with a flamer and then assault them. Your playing marines, right? Best of the best? Man up.

His tactic is to have you fail armor saves. That is all he has. Your going to take 2-3 HB shots a turn, which you still get armor saves on and a sprinkling of lasgun to wipe off the grim of your armor. Cover doesn't help you like it does him. Your not going to run like he will, you have 3+ armor saves and 4s across the board, what are you really scared of?

It sounds like he is playing with a platoon with 2+ PIS and a PCS. They are 3s across the board stat-wise and would have no chance whatever without cover. If they were blobbed together and kitted out with power weapons I wouldn't get in close combat. But lucky for you it sounds like he isn't doing that.

Your 10 man tactical squads give you a ML and a flamer for free. You don't need any other upgrades, as their 5+ armor save means you don't need power weapons or anything. Sit the ML back outside HB range and pepper them with Frag shots as you move the other half of your squad up (Sarge and flamer) to root them out. Remember the rapid fire rules and assaulting. Since he has rapid fire weapons (lasguns), it is doublly important you brush up on this incase he feels his oats and assaults you first.

If you do have the extra points, get a combi-flamer on the Sarge. But I think I would stick to BP+CS or PW and watch him destroy them in close combat, even at Init 1.

I think only about 3 of my combat squad guys would make it into close combat. Since in Kill Team, every single unit count as a separate unit, I will take volleys of extra fire after I kill off 3 of their guys (and consolidate).

With luck, I will probably wipe out about half of his models and then be out-shoot to death. Are you sure running them up is a good idea?

How about taking a sternguard squad, outfit them with a flamer and a Rhino. 1 Flamer guy rides the Rhino in and flame them while the rest run behind the rhino?
