Hi all. My friend wants to add wings to his hive tyrant as well as make a harpy model.
You could call both of us both a bit lazy and a bit lacking in creative skill, so we were wondering if there were any particular GW (or other supplier) wings that are well suited to these tasks.

For reference the HT is a metal model, and the Harpy will be built out of a trygon.

We haven't used greenstuff before so am not sure about how strong it really is. Are metal wings more trouble than they're worth (partially because they kill your ability to transport the model), and thats why all the search results had people making their own?

Any and all tips appreciated.

You could try using the Balrog wings on a Trygon for the Harpy.

Magnets are key. I have some magnets on my balrog wings + hive tyrants back and its a very easy conversion.

Total Finecast models purchased: 5
Total models without Finecast issues out of those purchased: 0
... "Finecast"

I'm gonna hijack this thread slightly, because I've got a very similar question:

If I wanted to make a Flyrant, but AVOID Balrog wings, then what would I use? I've been searching for something that looks good, and it's getting difficult. Some forums say "McFarlane Toy Dragon" wings, but most everybody says Balrog...

I wanna be different, of course...

Sorry about that. Now back to your originally scheduled programming

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Depends on th Mcfarlane dragon. Granted, they're cheaper and they already have an already awesome paintjob, but you'll have problems playing in GW stores.

Thanks all. Looks like Balrog it is.

The problem with Balrog wings for a winged Hive Tyrant or "Flyrant" is the exact reason that they work for a Harpy... they are freaking massive wings. I don't know what would fit a Flyrant and look "right".

Not sure what harpies you are trying to make, but for my dark elves harpies I used Tyranid Gargoyle wings and Daemonette bodies and heads. They look great.

The Tyranid Harpy is a Monstrous Creature that a lot of people make out of Trygons... so gargoyle wings wouldn't work so well.

I can't find them on the GW site, so could be discontinued, but I have a pretty massive pair of plastic wings that were for some sort of a fantasy dragon. I got them to go on a demon prince or greater demon conversion, must have been right before GW stopped selling bits
