First off, I love Barebone Infantry Squads. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the majority of Infantry Squads do better with their lasguns than special or heavy weapons. I thought this would be a fun arty/gunline list for giggles or for events:

Headquarters:

Company Command Squad
Master of the Fleet: 80 Points (x2)

Troops:

Platoon Command Squad: 30 Points (x2)

Infantry Squads: 50 (x8)

Special Weapon Squad (Platoon One)
Three Flamers: 50 Points

Special Weapon Squad (Platoon One)
Three Meltas: 65 Points

Special Weapon Squad (Platoon Two)
Three Flamers: 50 Points

Special Weapon Squad (Platoon Two)
Three Meltas: 65 Points

Heavy Weapon Squads (x4)
Autocannons: 300 Points

Heavy Support

(x2, Non-Squadroned) Colossus
Enclosed Crew Compartment: 310 Points

(x2, Squadroned) Madusae
Bastion Breacher Shells, Enclosed Crew Compartments: 310 Points

Fast Attack

(x2, Non-Squadroned) Sentinels
Heavy Flamer: 80 Points

(x3, Squadroned) Sentinels
Autocannons: 120 Points

It comes to around 1970 Points total, so if I really wanted to slap some melta bombs somewhere or give my two Company Command Squads a melta.

The army splits into two parts and sets up in two different positions. Each platoon sets up with a Colossus; one of each special weapon squad also. Along with them are a Command Squad and a Sentinel armed with a Heavy Flamer. The Medusae and Sentinels would choose which group to anchor with and act from there.

There's alot close range deterrents with enough Autocannons to pop a couple transports. As mentioned, I have about 30 Points left over for some more Meltaguns if needed.

Using 'FRF, SRF!' I have fired 50+ lasguns on a Blood Angle assault squad that DS in. Between the BS 3, the Str 3/T 4, the armor, and the Feel no Pain, I killed 1-2 marines.

That right there proved to me that lasguns, even in mass, are not worth it. Special weapons are the backbone of a IG list. Apparently you somewhat agree by having 3 SWSs kitted out but yet you have nothing on your PCSs or your CCS. Why spend points on units when you /have/ units that not only can have the same load out, but an extra slot to boot for the same price? A PCS with 4x Flamers is 50pts. A CCS with 4 Meltas is 90pts, but is BS 4 vs 3. Right there I saved you 140pts.

Now for the love of artillery, get some Lascannon HWSs, Kell, and Creed. Blob up those PISs, kitt them out with power weapons, Commissars, and ACs and melta guns (pay for it by dropping a PIS off of each.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.
Armies...
Orks, Eldar, Lamentors, Pre-Heresy EC, CSM EC, and IG.

That's what my Colossus are for. Even though FNP units still get their FNP, the Deep Striking cluster is just a sitting duck.

So they're not a bullet magnet. Their intended use was strictly orders and denying Outflanking units for the first couple turns, though I do see your point.

I might invest in Kell, Creed possibly. Las Cannons perhaps, if I spend the +30 points to upgrade two Autocannon HW Teams.

Blob my Infantry Squads?

Not even at gun point.

Blobs can only shoot at one target and would tarpit squads I could shoot at with my Colossus/Flamers.

So you have 10 infantry squads with only lasguns and no commissars? And your special weapons have no transports to get into CC? And your only really heavy fire power is in two squadroned vehicles that are AV12?

Man I wish I could fight an army like this everyday.

You have a lot of lasguns....but c'mon. Lasguns are terrible. Your only anti-tank is in a pair of easy-to-kill vehicles that you've upgraded to the point that you might as well take Demolishers instead and a bunch of easily killed (and routed) SWS that have no transportation. Plus a lot of infantry squads that really have no threat or anyway to stop them from running away.

Seriously I'd just shoot all my anti-tank at the two Medusas, probably kill both of them. And then procede to just cause three wounds on each of the IS, two wounds on the SWS, and one dead base on the Autocannons (which are very easy to instant-death) to force a bunch of leadership tests. Both the HWS and SWS have crap leadership so they'll run pretty easily. IS just don't have the punch to do much damage and have a bit over a 70% chance to pass a leadership test. Force enough tests and they'll start failing them.

A regimental standard or commissars (in blobs of 20-30) would give you a lot more survivability......still doesn't have a very high damage out-put, though.

I'd agree on the regimental standard. Also a Lord commissar would seem both to fit the theme and help those leadership problems.
