HQ:
Hive Tyrant with Lash Whip, Bonesword, Stranglethorn Cannon, Adrenal Gland, Paroxysm and Leech Essence: 200 points. (Already assembled and almost finished painting, can't change wargear now-too much hard work has gone into it already!)
2 Tyrant Guard: 120 points.
Elites:
3 Hive Guard: 150 points.
3 Venomthropes: 165 points.
Troops:
6 Tyranid Warriors, 5 with Deathspitters, 1 with Barbed Strangler: 215 points (I think-I am typing this list off of memory).
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
Heavy Support:
Mawloc: 170 points. (Model assembled and started painting, not being made redundant!)
Tried to stay away from Gaunt farm generic internet lists, whilst still making a viable list. A bit worried about lack of synapse, but that's my only major worry.
CONSTRUCTIVE criticism welcome.

If you are looking for fairly competitive, you unfortunately need to drop the warriors.
I like the Mawloc, maybe consider dropping the warriors and grabbing 8 Stealers with TS, 138 Points, A STEAL!
with the leftover point maybe make Mawloc a Trygon, but if you can find the points, I always recommend the Prime upgrade.

second on making him a trygon. The trygon is a synaps creature and can give the needed boosts for when you finaly hit the enemy lines.

Also, if you do end up making those adjustments, I really don't see a reason to have those Venomthropes.
Taking there place should be Hive Guard, or depending on your local meta, Zoans.

Your tyrant is good with just 2 guard see as how it looks like you want him in the mid field (seeing as you kept his melee weapon) but, I would take to Adrenal glands of and give him up armor. I love to see people using venoms, venoms don't really belong with the main line, they belong with a blitz squad. grab some stealers and run them with the venoms you'll be amazed. I'd turn the mawloc into a trygon prime for another synapse and the prime and a decent ranged attack. Drop the warriors they have no place, I'd replace with a tervigon. I like the hive guard on the list and yeah I'd keep for rhinos, but I'd keep a Zoan brood on your side board, for a psyker test they can cut through a landraider like butter. I live by the Zoanthrope, I tested the guard and was displeased with there damage output, but those are test you'll have to go through, if you haven't done them already.

Thanks for responses, but I am a bit confused.
First of all, I really don't see what's wrong with the Warriors. 15 S5 Ap5 shots + a pie plate a turn anyone? Of course, if I'm missing anything, then do tell me. Just to clarify, the idea with the Warriors is to have them sitting back, in cover, blasting apart infantry and giving Synapse-in effect using them as a support unit, as opposed to actually providing the main cut and thrust. Plus, I've already got 4 Deathspitter Warriors and 1 Barbed Strangler Warrior, and I'm NOT making them useless (although I am prepared to keep them for larger games.)
Genestealers could be good, but I'd probably give them Adrenal Glands, the reasoning being:
With Adrenal Glands, they will be wounding T3 things like Guardsmen on a 2+ on the charge, and a 3+ the rest of the time. They will also be wounding T4 things like Space Marines or Orks on a 3+ on the charge, and a 4+ the rest of the time. Plus, they will be able to destroy tanks much more easily. Toxin Sacs will admittedly mean they can wound really big things on a 4+, but it also means that they would become...average against guardsmen and things like that. I personally only give Toxin Sacs to things with S3 or below.
I considered Zoanthropes, and might still add some, the thing that was stopping me was their points cost and short range.
@Broodstar, I'm afraid I really, REALLY can't change the Tyrant. Seriously. You have no idea how long it took to put him together.
I have actually got a Trygon Prime, but the problem is deciding what to take out to fit him in (and deciding what to do with the Mawloc!)
How about switching the Homagaunts for Termagaunts?

Warriors are T4. ID'd by most by a lot of guns on the board.
Genestealers run way better with TS. The sacs enable you to re-roll to wound against T4 and lower, with opens up more chance for rending, while your AG idea is good, the TS far outweigh them, they also allow you to wound the big baddies on a 4+.
Termagaunts aren't a bad idea, especially if you are looking to keep the Venomthropes.
If I were you I would do the following for troops:
20 Horms
20 Horms
24 Terms (2 boxes)
8 Stealers w/ TS
Without a doubt replace Mawloc with the Trygon prime.
Think about putting Hive Commander on your Tyrant, to let one of the Horm squads outflank, this gives you a lot of flexibility as well as bonus to reserve rolls.
If you do decide to do this, keeping one unit of Hormagaunts in reserve is one of my favorite tactics. It really opens up a lot of options, I like to see what my enemy will do then decide if I want to outflank them or bring them on my board edge for Deep Striking or Drop Podding units, that Bounding Leap can really achieve great distances and the odds are in your favor with 3 D6.
You did mention you were worried about Synapse, maybe consider only running one horm squad and 2 Stealer squads, then you have your Tyrant w/ essentially 8 wounds babysitting your "Anvil", and when it comes to objectives Hormagaunts are not the greatest at holding them, so just push them and your Trygon Prime at whatever needs to die.
The list I run is very similar to yours, PM me if you are interested in what it looks like and how I run it!

That sounds good. You sound like you know what you're doing, but what about the half-finished Mawloc and Warriors? I don't like having models sitting around doing nothing. Should I reserve them for bigger games?

I actually have some the Mawloc to Trygon Prime conversion, just rip the jaws off, shave down the tentacle things on the back and head and replace the tail.
as far as warriors go I save mine for bigger games and either pod them or hive commander outflank.
let me know how it goes!

I see. I already have a Trygon Prime, so no need for conversions.
I might try out the army I've published and see how it performs. If it does well, then hooray! If not, then I'll tweak it.
