I was wondering exactly how armour penetration from an ordnance weapon is rolled for. On page 60 of the rulebook it says something along the lines of 'if the dot int he middle of the template is directly over the vehicles hull, roll two dice instead of one and pick the highest result'. So I assumed that means I roll 2 d6 and choose the highest of the 2 for the penetration. A guy nearby said this was wrong, and that you get to use the sum of the 2 dice, not just whatever one is highest. Can someone correct my understanding of this? Any page refs would be helpful also

If the Hole of the blast stays on the vehicle the hit is resolved at full str, if the blast hits yet the center is off it is at 1/2 str.

For Ordnance you add the appropriate str + 2d6(choose the highest) for pen

You have read us the right rules.

A weapon with the Ordnance rule rolls 2D6 for armour penetration, and picks the highest.

A Blast weapon (Ordnance or not) that scatters in such a way that the marker hits the model but the hole in the marker does not, halves its Str.

These are two different rules and are not dependent on each other though they may both apply.

2 dice, pick the highest, exactly as you posted.

He might of been thinking about melta weapons at 1/2 range, then it's str + 2d6(added together)

He was thinking melta weapons, most likely. There are also some exceptions to the ordnance rule where the dice are added together, like the Vanquisher cannon or the Medusa Bastion-Breacher shells.

Those aren't really exceptions, as neither of those weapons are ordnance.
