Hey, I am planning on building a Necron army that can be competitive in 1000 and 1500 point battles. I already have a Necron battleforce assembled and painted, so that includes around 20 Warriors, a Necron Lord, 3 Destroyers and 5-6 scarab swarms or something.

I'm not entirely thrilled with the Necron vehicles, and that may be partly due to my ignorance of how the new Necrons are utilized in combat. That is basically why I am curious to see what sort of suggestions people have on how to expand on this army I have already. I'm aware Destroyers are not amazing these days so I don't mind scratching them, and I will replace the Necron Lord with an Overlord too.

The newer models that have caught my eye are the Crypteks and the Immortals/Deathmarks. I have not seen many lists on the forums that use Flayed Ones or the Lychguard/Praetorian stuff.

Anyways, I'm going to be ordering models soon so any lists and explanations of functions/tactica for the new Necrons would be greatly appreciated!

@Leon, in your first list you take two Harbingers of Destruction both with Eldritch Lances, it says in the codex at the bottom of the Royal Court entry that "each of the Harbinger's unique wargear options can only be taken once in each royal court", and so you can have two Harbingers of Destruction, but not two Eldritch Lances. The same applies in your second list.

Kirjava, the eldritch lance is not unique.

Also, your overlord in CCB has wrong price:

- Yes, a bit expensive including him as a second HQ. But he can in the right circumstances threaten many
vehicles in a single turn - sweep, fire tachyon, MiM, attack from barge with warscythe, shoot barge weapon.
He is a very good character although he can sometimes be neutered and disappoint. however, that holds true
for almost any character in 40k.

Overlord, Phaeron, Warscythe 120 (with Pyrrhians)

- My superstar in a number of games. I truly love rapid firing veiling gauss eternals. With the two attached crypteks they
are very dangerous.

- Crypteks are pretty self-explanatory. Obviously we want Pulses to set up our Barges. HDestroyers
and Eternals. I'll go into more detail when I discuss the why I like Arks and Warriors.

- So the Eternals are just a threat with a warscythe, relentless and pretty decent cc
defense with the Storm Cryptek. But why just three troops. The Ark Warriors are very
hard to kill. I can let them go to ground on an objective with a 3+, RP and D3 repairs.
I can use them as a mobile fire base with two lances each. The Arks and Barges are a lot of
AV13 to deal with as well and provide cover for my HDestroyers and Eternals. All in all
very flexible and useful. The Night Scythe may do more damage but it does not have near
as much flexibility. Every troop choice can try for late objectives if needed as well.

Fast: 240

2 Heavy Destroyer, Heavy Gauss Cannon 120

- Try them. They look weak but they are the best we have for high AV other than
a warscythe or doom scythe. They are a 'must deal with' priority for many opponents
but with pulses and cover they are not easy to take down.

Heavy: 90

1 Annihilation Barge, Tesla Cannon, TL Tesla Destructor 90

- one more pretty decent AV13 barge at a reasonable price that deals with anything AV12 or lower quite nicely.
Even has a shot a AV13 - don't rely on it though.

So at 1500:
four lances - four heavy guiass cannons - MiM - sweeping attack - tesla destructor and two tesla cannon
- a lot of gauss balsters and flayers - four AV13.


At 1750 I add in another Warrior Ark and two Destruction Crypteks.
That gives me five AV13, six lances, two warscythe overlords - one with MiM
and tachyon - and four heavy gauss.


I have not played above 1750 yet. I'll probably add in another two Barges at 2000
and drop a Cryptek and add one warrior.
