I agree with the Space Marine ending. GW and Relic would never abandon such a cashy (so to speak) Chapter. Not to mention the fan popularity of the Blood Ravens. Implications about them were implied in the HH novel: A Thousand Sons. When Dawn of War came out, Blood Ravens were just another Chapter. By the end of Dawn of War II: Retribution, they were an famous Chapter in their own right. IMO, the Blood Ravens, with so many novels, games, and their own memorable characters (Gabriel Angelos, Davian Thule, etc.) deserve their own Codex entry.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Blood Ravens fan, much?
In any case, I think we can all agree that the Space Marine ending for DoW: Retribution can be at least mostly canon, with Gabriel Angelos becoming new Chapter Master, and him and Diomedes commencing a purge within the chapter's ranks. There's a tenuous link to this, in the recent Space Marines video game. Towards the end, you meet some Blood Ravens, and it is noted that they say 'None shall find us wanting!' as some sort of battle-cry, which coincidentally is the last line Angelos makes in the Retribution ending. So the implication appears to be that the Blood Ravens purged their own chapter of traitors, and so believe themselves redeemed in the eyes of themselves and others.

Fair enough. We all have our own ways of getting into the hobby.
And what's GW's lack of presence doing stopping you from making a BR army? Import the stuff and make it yourself

Even if I did, I'm not exactly sure I can find enough fans to make a decent battle. What's more, without a presence, I might not be able to take part in future tournaments. What a downer...

I quite like the Blood Ravens. Partly because of the games, and partly because I'm firmly convinced that the Blood Ravens were originally what was left of the Thousand Sons... and I do love the Thousand Sons.

If I remember right, In A Thousand Sons, the Fourth Fellowship was sent with the Fleet to far edge of the galaxy by Magnus before the Burning of Prospero. They weren't sent to the Planet of the Sorcerers with the rest of the Legion. In Age of Darkness: Rebirth, the Fleet returns home only to find ruins. They are disgusted by what Magnus did, and horrified at what their Legion had become. A certain Revuel Arvida leaves the ruins of the City of Light burning with determination, stating Knowledge is Power, while his Corvidae crest is emphasized. The Blood Ravens are also foreseen by a remembrancer in A Thousand Sons as the lost sons.

It was never explicitly stated in A Thousand Sons that it was the Fourth Fellowship that was sent away - it's only implied vaguely, really. The Fourth is never even mentioned in the whole book, and the captain of it isn't named at all until that short story with Revuel Arvida in it.
There's also a possible hint of Thousand Sons in the Blood Ravens book Dawn of War: Ascension, when they excavate old red armour that's had its chapter markings weathered away. The characters assume it's Blood Raven armour, but it's hinted in the book that what they're finding is too old to be connected to the Blood Ravens. What other marines do we know of that wore red and white, and had cordial relations with the Eldar...?
Granted, all of this is speculation, but that's half the fun of it.

True, but an entire Fellowship did leave with the Fleet. And by coincidence (or not!) a Fellowship would be as large as a Chapter, and the Blood Ravens ARE a fleet-based Chapter...see the connection? And Garro and the other survivors of Istvaan III were still alive by this point. If they could prove to the Inquisition that the Fleet was loyal, then the Inquisition might have just sealed the loyalist Sons' records and had them swear an Oath of Silence over the matter in exchange for allowing them to become a new Chapter.

I'm not sure about that. Space Marine was in an alternate universe where the Ultramarines Second Company had a different Captain.

Um, what? Not necessarily an alternate universe (vagaries of the Warp, aside). The whole story could just be taking place at another point in 40k's long history. Just because you know Sicarius to be 2nd Captain of the Ultramarines now does not mean he was ALWAYS 2nd Captain.
Actually, that said, does anyone know and what point does DoW2 and its expansion takes place?

Well, no specific date was given about the games, so it's possible this was before Cato Sicarius became Captain of the Second Company.

Oh yeah, I'm not denying the Fourth was sent away from Prospero, I totally believe that! And yeah, I knew about the Fellowship/Chapter size and fleet thing, hehe. I'm just saying the Fourth was never even mentioned in the A Thousand Sons book, so we're basing it mostly on conjecture and speculation, the occasional hint and what we can read between the lines.
The fact that the Blood Ravens' past has been covered up is yet more evidence that they're originally the Sons - why else would those in power have gone to so much effort to hide their origins? It wouldn't be good to have it be known that the Blood Ravens came from a Traitor Legion, after all.
Hell, my own personal army fluff is based on the assumption that the Fourth was not on Prospero when the Wolves attacked.
I wish I could actually play Space Marine without getting horribly motion sick. :( I'm even more curious about how it goes now, damnit.

Since the Tyranids appear in DOW 2, probably around Hive Fleet Leviathan's arrival, since the game Tyranids had Leviathan's colors on their carapaces.

Relic invented Blood Ravens so they could play around with the chapter in games without disrupting fluff from other more popular chapters, as well as allowing them to make stuff up on the fly.
But I don't like the colour and you don't really get a "feel" for a chapter in an RTS. I'd be VERY surprised if we saw a Blood Ravens Codex. Maybe a small paragraph in C:SM but that's about it.

Something that we're all entitled to on the Internet, mate. That being said, I have to agree on everything Joey posted, except about the colour scheme, I love their colourscheme. But no matter how you look at it, the Blood Ravens are mostly a Relic creation invented for the purpose of the DoW series so as to not interfere with the greater going-ons of the 40k 'verse. And you dont really get a feel of any particularly unique identity for the Ravens as a Chapter, per se. It's not like they're the Wolves or Blood Angels, and as I already said, they're mostly a standard Codex chapter who just happen to have a higher number of Librarians. Hence why you can never hope for a Codex: Blood Ravens. They're just not THAT different enough to warrant their own codex, especially when the vanilla codex does everything for them already.

Ancient Venerable Dreadnought
Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

I concede the point.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |

Blood Ravens have made it into the fluff, no matter how much everyone brings up that they were just invented by Relic. They're here to stay, people like them too much. But I highly doubt they'll get a codex, there's too many SM codices as it stands anyway. I an see them having a story in the next codex, maybe even a special character, but that's it. Maybe if they bring back the old chapter deviances from 4th ed, but make them better, you could realistically build a Blood Ravens chapter, but that'll be about it.
And SM does take place in an alternate universe, Relic said so.

Special Character will do fine even without a Codex of their own.

I disagree with the TS successors idea...
Mainly because it's a fairly stupid idea (For more than just the obvious reasons) and i like them.

I've just realised how snotty my response sounded before, so apologies to all. I would like to see them have a special character though, maybe a librarian special sergeant to fit the fluff?

I love how
Chapter invented for Relic to sell computer games=lacking in soul, somehow. Like a plastic Love Heart.
Chapter invented by GW to sell books/minitures= paragon of human imagination, untainted by commercial interests and infallible.
