I just got a reaver titan and a topic came up. I want to put my reaver on a large round base so it won't fall over, however i don't know the base rules for the base.
What i need to know is if I'm exposing my titan to more close combat and/or ordinance weapons hitting the base automatically hitting the titan. I've figured since titans don't come with bases that any base made would just be for making things look nice and would help protect the model.

I have seen a few titans with a couple different bases.

First, just a round base large enough to encompass the entire models size. (shoulder to shoulder and make sure feet fit securely)

Second, a square base, using the same peramiters.

Third, really depends on the feet themselves. These were for Warhounds, and what they did was two smaller bases (Ord Template) that was mounted directly under the feet and then a cross beam that connected the two together.

The problem with basing a Titan in the game is that ranges to the Titan will get measure to the base, pushing your void shield dead zone further out than it would be without a base. Not a big deal (pun intended), but an issue you should be aware of. Personally, I'm in the school of thought that oval bases for Imperial titans makes sense as it will best match their general top-down silhouette (and reduce the void shield dead zone).

Of course, oval is not as easy to cut as circle or square.

Most of the time you just want it to look balanced for your Titan. That being said I would scale up the "flying base" like on the Dreadnight.
