Big Manor and some trees sound nice. If you go with that terrian. I would paint your board some sort of grassy green colour to fit in with the buildings with some rocks and such (Bush, trees, goarse, etc.)

What ever you do, make the colors on the forest and buildings match.
If you are going for nice green grass, have the buildings in nice cheery colors(like the stock photos) and have some of the same grass on the bottom of the buildings for continuity.
if you go for blasted earth(brown grass and rock) just make sure the buildings match. maybe dirty them up a little.
Forests should match the season on the board.

definitely make the seasons on the board match.
Continuity is the most important thing to be found on any gaming table.
It's always nice to have a wide variety of available terrain, sometimes you need something like a forest (if you ever come across a wood elf or Bretonnian player with the green knight, it'd be rather unfair if they had no trees)

I personally try to keep terrain simple. GW want you to go nuts with terrain in 8th to sell lots of kits (hence all the daft special rules). I find that a few simple pieces like woods and a series of walls/fences are enough to change the dynamic of a game. Towers and so forth do look cool, but I leave them in the corner, unless they represent an objective in a scenario.

I think random terrain was a good idea, its just that the table GW put in is rediclous. You can literally end up with the entire board covered in stuff.
They should have put in several tables for different types of climates and set ups.
In fact, thats not a bad idea for Proposed Rules...
