I'm going to start a pure bike army, since i've got dozens of bikes/assault bikes, but i'm not sure about what codex i should use: SM bikes are cheaper, but the DA Ravenwing has Fearless, Scout and can have the apotecary and banner for almost nothing; i'm also looking to make small squad and give them as much meltas as possible.
What army is the most competitive for a bike list at 1500 points?

I say DA, They seem to fit better as a bike army. But I don't think Meltas are the best option on bikes. You have to get way to close to use them. When that happens you die.

I like DA too as you get cheaper speeders and a armor 14 speeder as well. What could go wrong with that?

I am alittle biased though.

As a former DA player, now turned Salamanders (C: SM) i would have to agree with DA. They're leader, Sammael?, can allow bike marines become troops. Which is a plus you need. Besides, DA's second company is completly bikes, so your able to fit with the fluff.

As a counter part in the poll I voted SM Codex.

DA are the first and the more obvious choice for a bikes list just becasue of the Fluff.

In fact, in therms of games, SM are actually very better.

Fearless, the only upgrage that deserve to be mentioned, isn't actually always better that ATSKNF. Especially with bikes.

Besides, just like in every bikes lists, you'll have to face the same problems with DA and SM codices.
In this case, the SM sounds really really better. More cheaper support units, one special character that could help you adding deathstars units or tactical flexibility to the list but even a cheap, efficient and nice HQ choice that will allow you to take bikes as troops.

Out of the fluff, SM are a better compromise now a days.

IF, on the other side, you were looking for a pure fluffy list, something you haven't specified, just ignore this post and go totally DA. Less competitive but funny.

Play both. Paint the models how you want. Then you will only need a bike command squad and captain on bike or Sammael to essentially to move between lists, then some sort of Khan model if you want a third list for kicks.

Both are good but slightly different. Either way you'll need good scenery and to be careful with tactics.

If you really mean every model as a bike then ravenwing would my choice.

Comes down to how you feel about playing MSU(of ravenwing) compared to larger units with more support(vanilla).
