Does anyone else have a problem with embarked units being left on the playing space of the table? With my vehicle s I usually leave on model on or next to the vehicle, two if IC in unit, but an opponent at this weekend’s tournament left an entire squad on the table in his deployment zone. I had forgotten which vehicle he embarked in and made an error because for two turns when I looked up this unit was sitting in his deployment zone.
Bad on me for not recalling the embarking of that unit, but the table had ledges and was 8X4 with only 6X4 for playing. When I told him that he should not have left them on the table and that it did impact my decisions, he got a little upset. How does dakka feel about it?

We don't put embarked troops on the table for that very reason. I might "rhino surf" with one guy from a unit so it's clear who is in what.

Not sure why the guy would be upset at you.

I am not a fan of leaving units on the table, but sometimes space dictates that choice.

It is best for you to bring stuff up in the game, but as long as you weren't overly confrontational it should have been fine to mention it after.

I always make it clear to my opponent which squad is inside which transport at the start of the game, and obviously if my opponent asks I'll be more then happy to show him exactly on my army list. As mentioned above the easiest way to do this is to put a model on top or next to the vehicle that distinguishes the unit from others. I even have each of my transports marked out in some way, slightly more ornate painting for the one my wolf lord goes in for example - basically the same squad goes in the same transport every game, so my regular opponents know anyway.

However often during the game squads re-embark after having taken casualties so I find it useful to just place such a squad in a corner somewhere (if there's not another easily available place) so I don't have remember how many died and what specifically did die. If I or my opponent put moels back into my case it could lead to confusion in my opinion.

You've just got to make sure its obvious, and in most cases it is, so in the above scenario I wouldn't have a problem with it. Obviously in your specific case there's quite a big difference to this, particularly because it doesn't sound as if he's hid them away in a corner, more like he lined them up in his deployment zone, perhaps as a deliberate distraction.

Oh, and towards your other point...

It is very important that people are clear about who is in what. I hate making mistakes because I'm playing against the Three Rhino Monte.

Rhino surfing. It's not just cool looking, it's informative.

I trukk surf... Usually my BW/Trukks can hold the attached IC and half the unit.

Casualties, embarked guys and reserves need to be off the table and clearly kept separate so those dead orks don't somehow re-embark a battlewagon somehow.

If you want to keep embarked models above board to keep them from mixing with casualties, put them in a box lid or a tray so it shows them as not in play but visible for people to see and easy to move around.

I would Rhino surf and if space was limited, leave my models lying down out of the main battle (in an empty room, for example)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
However, if your opponent does this always check how many have died. I've met several players who put all the dead units in with transporting units, and a squad of 2 becomes a squad of 10 suddenly.

I take the models off the table if possible. If I can't I leave them in a corner as far away from the action as possible, so it's clear that they aren't involved. And my CSM's always Rhino surf, its the only way to travel!

I usually take the models off-table, but if it's like turn 5 and I put them somewhere where there's absolutely no action there's usually not a problem. Rhino surfing is viable also, and informative!

i normally put units on my case or really bunched up in the corner or along one of the edges and tell the opponent that the guys are in the tanks

I leave embarked units on the side, but I do have an annoying habit of leaving units to be deep striked right in the middle of the table so I don't forget to deep strike them.
My opponent finds this a bit annoying but at least i don't forget to deepstrike Marbo/melta stormtroopers.

I'll usually stick the squad's leader on top of the Rhino/Land Raider and then leave the rest of the squad sitting off to the side or on my army case, with casualties to the side or put back in their place in the case.

I think only models that are actually on the table should be on the table.

I certainly do not like embarked units on the table. I also don't like it when my opponet leaves their dead on the table. When I kill something they just pick it up and put it in an area that is empty and sometimes it screws up the battlefield picture.

If space is limited I don't really mind so long as it's out of the way, but if there's room I prefer to have it off the table. Also, rhino surfing. I always put the squad leader on top of the transport.

i leave my stuuf on table, well away from the actual game and make it very clear what is actually around, also use another part of the table to put my casualties, this helps keep track of how much i lose combat by.

this is because space at my local is very limited
