Apologies, not quite 40k background but i want opinions on the themes of the following armies, and how well they would tie into a Protoss-themed force

So being playing a lot of starcraft recently - both old and new (old one is better if you ask me) - and I really want a themed Protoss army as they are my favorite ever faction/race of all sci-fi I have encountered. But a real quandry as to what to represent them.

Eldar
Eldar were my first choice as both Protoss and Eldar rely on psychic abilities and quality over quantitiy for their troops. Thought of Harlequins as Dark Templars - both are difficult or impossible to see, strike hard and fast but are fragile, Wraithguard as Dragoons/Stalkers/Immortals, the Avatar as an Archon. Possibly Scorpions or Banshees as Zealots, but I feel that both those choices suck. And of course Farseers as High Templars (Tassadar is totally Eldrad, even in the story - he sacrifices himself to defeat his races' greatest enemy -come on!) , with possibly an autarch as an Executor. However I would want something to represent the mighy Protoss fleet, and Eldar currently don't have any flyers. Maybe fire prisms, but not sure.
A drawback is that the eldar codex has been around for awhile, then I convert all the models and they all change their rules soon after i'm finished!

Dark Eldar
So they have flyers, which I can use to represent the fleet. Maybe a voidraven as a Void Ray. DE also have harlequins for my Dark Templar, and wyches for zealots? The webway portal tactic actually ties in quite well with the Protoss warping in stuff from their homeworld too, with maybe a talos as an archon this time. No psychic powers though, and I'm doing a DE army the now so wouldn't be too different.

Grey Knights
So what better way to represent zealots than Purifiers - whatever a zealot hit sure wouldn't get an armour save, thats for sure, and hammerhand would certainly tie in with the hitting hard part. Shooty Paladins as Immortals as they just don't die, and dreadknights get marked down once again for the almighty Archons. A lot of psychic that can change the game, very protoss. But I don't feel that any imperial vehicles rules would tie in very well with the theme

Necrons
So I know very little of the necron units so far. But the shooty side of things sounds in a similar type of destructive vein as protoss, as well as bringing stuff back to life and manipulating the battlefield and enemy. The walker thingy with the deathray - thats defo a colussus, and the flyer with the ray of doom can be a Void ray. Transport flyer thing could act as the old Arbiters, and in a sort of abstract way could i get away with using the tomb spyders with their spamming of scarabs as a carrier spitting out intercerptors? C'tan shards yet again get put down as an archon, destroyers as dragoons/immortals and maybe the guys who who make your opponents units kill each other as a Dark Archon, and the stormlord guy or anyone who does the nightfighting/solar pulse tactic as a high templar. Downside with necrons is that there is no real close combat punch so no zealot opportunities, unless i'm mistaken

What do you guys think??

The Protoss were originally going to be the Eldar, when Starcraft was a not-yet-finalized Warhammer 40K RTS.

So... Eldar.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Really? I had no idea that it was actually going to be a 40k RTS- is this fact, or conjecture?

I have also heard from a well placed GW source that Starcraft was originally going to be a 40k rts, but GW pulled the plug. Didn't stop Blizzard from totally copying the Tyranids by creating the Zerg ha!

Who-and-what-came-first conjecture aside, I think you should go Eldar. It just fits, like a hand in a silk glove.

Yeah, seems the best choice. Would be cool having the necron walker things as colussi, but possibly with war walkers or wraithlords i could go down a similar path

So... Eldar.

There's unsubstantiated rumor that Warcraft was going to be a WHFB RTS, but GW turned them down. This has bled over into people thinking that Starcraft was supposed to be a 40k RTS in line with that same rumor.

It's tricky finding an army that directly correlates with a Starcraft army, as Prtoss and Terrans both contain elements that would require units from two codices or more to represent. I'm trying to think of Eldar units that play like Protoss, but I'm having a hard time with it. I'm thinking Void Rays for Fire Prisms and Stalkers for War Walkers. I guess you could do Scorpions for Zealots, but there's no troops choice equivalent.

Honestly I think either Eldar or Grey Knights could do.

I mean go nuts on the conversions and Grey Knights really fit the bill. Librarians/Inquisitors and the like can easily be templar. Dreadknight can be collosi (is), dreadnoughts are dragoons/immortals. Grandmasters are the more badass CC of the Templar caste. Zealots could be regular grey knigths.......or deathcult assassins.

Just some options for them. Either one can work.

You could even do Mordrak's Ghost Knights for Dark Templar! Holy crap, you actually came up with a really good counts-as. Never would have thought of GK for Protoss.

and being human in the Korpulu sector, you wouldn't trust the Protoss either. They burn Terran worlds just to stop Zerg infestations.

Yeah I feel Eldar fit the bill very well, but Grey Knights have some potential. As do the Crons. Leaning more towards eldar though

Well they don't trust you either...

Seriously go Eldar. Then paint them blue, with gold armor, and show me pictures.

I think Grey Knights could fit best. Durable, low model count, lots of firepower.

Only one Problem, Silver armour, not Gold,

Hahah. Mordrak is Tassadar/Zeratul. Coteaz(or any other inquisitor) is Raynor. Palladins/Terminators are Protoss Templar Caste. Marnies/Henchmen are Raynor's Raiders. Dreadnoughts are Golliaths. Dreadknights are dragoons/immortals. Landraiders don't really fit at all....maybe reavers or siege tanks? Stormravens could be armed dropships/shuttles. Assassins are ghosts.

Pretty much every unit has a Starcraft analogue of some sort.

Hell interceptors are pretty much vultures. With and option to hit the NOS button once in a game.

Seriously lots of options there.
