Hi Dakka

I don't play Vampire Counts nor do I have the codex for them or anything, but I have always liked them. One of my favorite units in fantasy when I'm at the store is the Black Coach. I always want to buy it when I'm at the store just to have cuz it looks so cool.

Anyways I'm just wondering what kind of unit it is. Like what kind of tactic do you use for it. Is it a good unit. Do most VC armies have one/two? Is it strong, powerful, weak, useless? Who is driving it? And what is with the coffin in the back? Any story to the coffin (whose inside). How does it attack.

Okay awesome. And if anyone has one painted please post it in this thread or send me the link. I would love to see some painted as all ive ever seen are the GW catalogue ones!. Thanks guys

It's basically a kind of powerful chariot, with the Wraith in the drivers seat doing the killing.

It also has the awesome ability to eat magic power dice which, in turn, powers it up. The more dice it eats (which coincidentally depowers you and your opponent in the magic phase) it gains things like spiked wheels, flight and Ethereal (which means only magical attacks can ever damage it). By the time it gains Ethereal, it's a flying close combat monster that can only be killed by magic weapons.

The coffin in the back is a powerful Vampire which was 'killed' and is now resting in its coffin, slowly gaining enough power to rise again. It has no actual rules aside from doing the magic sucking.

It attacks by smashing into things on the charge. Useless against a ranked up unit, pretty good when flying around behind the lines and murdering vulnerable things.

It has a 1/6 chance to absorb every power dice generated in the game (friend or foe). A bit of a double edged sword.

When it absorbs them it gains a number of abilities in a strict order: Scythed Chariot, Hatred, Magic Resistance, Killing Blow, Ethereal, Flyer.

It's pretty strong. It has good saves and the Vampire rule meaning nearby Undead can march within 6" of it.

It's a strong rare choice but the competition for rare slots in a Vampire list is fierce, with the Varghulf, Terrogheist, Wraiths and Blood Knights about.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

Be aware that it is currently a metal kit (so no GW store will sell it) and that it will become an unmodified Finecast kit in January.

Ok wow awesome. Thanks for the great answers guys. That ability to suck up power dye is pretty neat. Adds some fun and character to the unit. I never knew anything about it.

Also there is a store near my house (not GW) that has a few metal black coaches left. Maybe I'll get my hands on one before the nostalgia runs out

Thanks again for the replies.

Cheers

Its also a bit more easy to power up in a Storm of Magic game

its a nice idea - I had hoped for a plastic one with lots of options

I own 2 of these and always field at least one of them. It can really help out during the beginning of each magic phase.
