Use it with your friends by all means, if they agree.
Codex GK is the 'offical' one now for tournaments etc.
I still use my previous edition nids and necron codexes at home, as the newer codexes don't do it for me

I'd be interested in a Deamonhunts army but Grey Knights really don't do it for me. Maybe it's because each unit is so OMGPOWERFUL and the whole draigo hate.
It'd be cool to have an Inquisitor with some stormtroopers and a squad of terminators, say.

Are they more powerful?
Probably
Do i prefer the older codex nontheless?
Yup
My home games aren't about crushing my friends with optimised lists, but about playing what i enjoy, and i enjoy the old necrons more
If i WANT to crush them beneath an elegantly sculpted stiletto i play my DE, and I take them and my orks to tournaments/pickup games

Yuck. Daemonhunters had much more "fluff" and "fun" potential.
I'm a DH player for fun games, not a GK player for that exact reason.
Funny, actually the dh codex has less fluff then the new one, but the kewl thing about that was that the grey knights were very mysterious.

You can still take Stormtroopers, just use Acolytes w/ HotShot Lasguns and Coteaz. I preferref the old Coteaz tbh but. But the old one's OK so long as your opponent says it is.
