Subject: Index Astartes Redux Project (Planning Stages)

Am I the only one that misses the old Index Astartes chapters? While they may not have had dedicated Codex books they still added a great deal of variety to the Marine codecies that were out there.
With that said, after I'm finished with my Iron Warriors project I will be moving on to something I'm calling Index Astartes Redux, which brings back the Army Permutations. However, I don't want to do it exactly like it was done before, there are a few other things I'd like to do with this Redux.
1) Stretch the Index Astartes across multiple marine Codex books, not just Codex Space Marines.
2) Include at least one Special Character or Unique Unit with each Index Astartes entry. EDIT: To elaborate, each Chapter in the Index Astartes Redux would have a page for Force Organization, Special Rules, and New Wargear, and 3 pages consisting of any combination of Special Characters and/or Units.
3) Include Traitor, Renegade, and Heretic Chapters. Would love to see some of the Chapters who switched sides to Tau Empire.
4) Include fan Chapters. Why stop at just the official stuff?
And that's it for now. For the time being, while I'm continuing to work on Codex: Iron Hands, I simply want to get everyone's opinion on this upcoming project as well as any ideas and suggestions you may have.

Seems like you're talking about around 30 chapters. I doff my hat to you if you intend to make a 90 page codex with 30 ICs (at least) by yourself. Edited because i though you were saying you wanted this as an appendix to the normal SM codex.

Actual conversation from my stats class-
Student: Why is the denominator on that equation n-1?
Prof: n is very good, but n-1 is also very good.
GENERATION 5: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment. |

Oh they won't all be in one book, I'm planning on doing these in Volumes.

I do agree with you that the old Indexs wre good, they added flavour to the standard SM codex.
What chapters were you planning on doing??
|
in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

I'm planning on doing roughly 10 Chapters per volume.
So far I would love to do the following (not including Fan Chapters, some of which I want to do as well). Chaos entries will be coming later on, I want to see if the rumours are true and that the new Chaos book is coming out soon before I commit to anything huge involving CSM. Same with Dark Angels.
- Alpha Legion (Pre-Heresy)
- Black Dragons
- Blood Ravens
- Crimson Fists
- Death Guard (Pre-Heresy)
- Emperor's Children (Pre-Heresy)
- Flesh Tearers (Blood Angels)
- Imperial Fists
- Iron Warriors (Pre-Heresy)
- Lamenters (Blood Angels)
- Mantis Warriors
- Night Lords (Pre-Heresy)
- Raven Guard
- Red Scorpions
- Salamanders
- Sons of Horus (Pre-Heresy)
- Thousand Sons (Pre-Heresy)
- White Scars
- Word Bearers (Pre-Heresy)
- World Eaters (Pre-Heresy)
Iron Hands won't be included due to me making a proper Codex for them, however after Iron Hands is done I may do some Iron Hands successors in here. If you have any chapters you want to see that aren't listed please let me know.

So, wait. Are you going to rely entirely on known fluff for these, meaning those with little won't be able to be used?

Feastmaster Ogre Kingdoms - WIP
Fire Lords Space Marines - working towards 1500pts

Oh no, others will be used as well, I'd just prefer to have at least some sort of tidbit of information, even if its just a shred of information. As I said, that list isn't complete, there's a lot of other chapters I'd like to do as well.

sounds really really good.
i found a chapter that may interest you: The Steel Confessors.
The Steel Confessors are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter secretly Founded during the 36th Millennium's 19th Founding by the Adeptus Mechanicus for its own use from the gene-seed of the Iron Hands. After their discovery by the Inquisition, the Steel Conffessors were forced to become an independent Chapter of the Adeptus Mechanicus, but they still maintain unusually close ties with the Mechanicum of Mars. They recently successfully defended their homeworld, the Forge World of Kalevala, from an attack by the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan, though at great cost to the Chapter.

I'd probably add them when I got the Iron Hands Codex finished.
