I have an awesomely converted Azreal model but I can't seem to build a list that actually works and includes him. Does anyone have any strategies for using him effectively?

Stick him with a squad of regular vets with power weapons in a LRC. This can be risky as in an average 1500 point game, you put close to half your army in what becomes a steel coffin against Railgun Tau/ Eldar lance spams (to avoid this difficulty, take off a vet without power weapon and then put the unit in a drop pod. Works against Tau gunline very well). With either of these combos, take the chapter banner that Azrael can take. The vets become an unstoppable ball of killing power, with 4++ saves and 4 attacks each (2 basic, 1 for the banner and 1 for having chainswords/ power weapons and bolt pistols). Avoid walkers such as dreadnoughts however, as they'll tie you up and cut you down big time unless you take meltabombs (even then the costs can be high.

I have found two ways which seem to be OK.

Firstly command squad in a drop pod.

Second is in a dev squad which is giving another dev. squad cover saves.

Azrael is just too expensive for most games. As Banzaimash said, he fits best in a Company Vets squad geared for CC in a LRC. That way he has the most bodies around him dealing damage and taking hits. Although, Company Vets can't take a banner, it's the Command Squad that gets it. His Command Squad could be another home for him, but as they are limited to 5 models, I think Company Vets will stick around longer.

Having said that, now that Company Vets and Command Squads can take 3++ Storm Shields, you might be better off with a cheaper IC and shelling out for a few SS in his squad in lower point games. A Company Master can easily fit your conversion for a hundred points less than Azzy.

Hopefully it won't be too long until we get a new codex with suitable rules for the SUPREME Grand Master.
