Hello fellow Dakkites! I am trying to understand the fine tuning of the Assault Rules, and perhaps you can answer something for me. The scenario is an IC attached to a unit is assaulting another unit. The closest to closest model moves first. As per convention, I have always played that the IC moves second. However, I have only found written instruction on the IC moving before other models on pg 49, col 1, par 6, INDEPENDENT CHARACTERS & ASSAULTS. Here it only states that ICs attack with the assaulting unit, no Move Priority assigned. However, moving BEFORE friendly models is specifically stated when REACTING to being assaulted, and pile-in moves. My question is, do I have to move my IC before other friendly models if he is not the initial closest to closest in an assault? And if so, where does it state that?

No, you don't. You can move him last - the only model required to move in any order is the closest, and he must move first. You can move the farthest model second if you wish, as long as you follow the rest of the rules in that section.

If he is in the assaulting unit, he moves when you decide to move him. However, if he is not B2B, he doesn't get to attack.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Thanks!

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.
