Really sorry for this newbie question , It's been forever since I've played this game and I've essentially forgotten most of the rules.

I see that some units come with a dedicated transport, for example I can put meganobs in a battlewagon as a dedicated transport, or I can put boyz in a trukk. But I see people putting their burnas in a wagon, even though the ork codex doesn't list a dedicated transport. Do you just start out with a wagon next to the burnas and have them embark the first turn?

Dedicated transports take up no extra slot on the FOC, whereas there are a number of vehicles out there that have transport capacity but must be taken as a HS choice, or FA, etc. In the case of Orks the Looted Wagon is a HS choice, but since it has a transport capacity you can have a unit of burnas, or any other squad that will fit, inside it. They may even start the game inside of it.

Yes - dedicated tranports can only have the unit that bought it deploy in them at the start, however any other unit can then embark in it turn 1

And non-dedicated transports (that is, vehicles which have a transport capacity but are bought as their own force org slot) may have any unit deployed in it which could normally embark.
