Hello. I recently signed up for a tournament and was wondering what would be a good list for 2k points. At my local game store, there are a lot of guard, space wolves, and grey knights. I was thinking of an all reserves list, but wasn't sure if was the best option. Any thoughts or example lists?

Uh, you will probably be going up against leafblower, in wich case your in for a hard time, but anyway, outflanking genestealers will smash and burn parking lots, but they will get trashed next turn.

Hiveguard

trygons

tervigons

maybe even the swarmlord, hes a cc machine

I concur with Olenos on the IG.

SW? They're the hard power armored army they've been for ... going on 3 years?!?! Yeesh.

GKs - Too many force weapons for you to field a MC heavy list, and you've not enough ranged dakka.

Ugh. I dunno what else to tell you. What models do you have?

I have:
2 Hive Tyrants
3 tyrant guard
Lictor
Doom of Malan'tai
3 Hive Guard
3 Zoanthropes
9 warriors
lots of genestealers
lots of gaunts
lots of hormagaunts
lots of rippers
3 tervigons
20 gargoyles
3 carnifexes
trygon
3 biovores

I can buy more models if needed. I think the best thing to buy would be 3 more hive guard but I would like to create a list before spending any more money.

HQ first:
Definitely a hive tyrant, with a guard or two if you plan on having him being CC oriented. I would recommend the Swarmlord, but not essential.

You also might want to run a HQ tervigon, have this one be the one that runs up with the rest of your gants, to give them AD and TS, while the other 2 cap obejctives.

Elites:
Hive guard
Zoanthropes or more hiveguard
and either doompod or a coupla lictors. These are important backfield distractions that should be able to stop a unit of longfangs/ devastators from shooting at anything for a couple of turns. Another option would to convert some Ymgarl stealers, which do a lot more damage

Troops
2 small units of gants and 2 tervigons required with catalyst, AD and TS are "optional"

2 units of stealers w/ TS

Heres the tricky part:

Trygons work best in paris, so they have to split fire, but it takes up a lot of points, and you currently only have one.

Carnifexes are extremly vulnerable, and not a great choice as they never really get back their points.

Biovores can do some damage, I might even recommend them, as dropping 3 pie plates on IG can hurt, and even Long Fangs will take some damage as well.

Gargoyles are good, but they don't really fit with any other part of the list, besides trying to help the stealers and such could do some good things, they are just somewhat vulnerable to getting stuck out in the open. You could give them FNP to assuage this.

Looks pretty solid I'd say.

My only concern is mech. There is a space wolf player in my store who takes around 8 tanks in his list. Last time he was able to snipe everything with his long fangs and stayed comfortably in the tanks for the rest of the game.

If by losts of stealers you mean about 60, then that's maybe the way to go ...

I think the only thing Nids have that can take out GK's are stealers with AG so that they're I7, you need to hit the GK's first in CC or everything will die. Not to mention when you get in that 24' range it's not too much fun.

Requirment for Double trygon or none in large games is a myth, especially when scary things like swarmlord are on the table.

-with the Hive Com Tyrant, you can have 1 of your Tervi's outflank with the now super scary size Gene squad. Give them FNP to save them from the mass bolter fire they will undoubtely receive. and vs the armies that dont spam a huge amount of power weapons in squads and are more shooty (eg the SW and IG player) FNP will make up for the lack of grenades, since the enemy will always be in cover.

Plus either Scything Talons or Crushing Claws - they're a requirement.

No, they are not a requirement. They are listed under "Options:" and are thus by definition optional. Or do you also force people to swap out stinger salvo for cluster spines, and take any of the biomorphs, etc.

I ... I may have had a lot of cough medicine today, on top of a bug in the software I use to build lists and some other things... I completely misread that rule.

Sorry for any confusion I caused.
