This game up in a game the other day, and I was wondering what Dakka thinks on the subject.

I know that multiple units can be included within an assault, and each model within the assault can target any other unit it is in base to base with. But what about splitting a single models attacks on two units? My friend argued that you can, and I argued that you can not. We did not find any evidence in the rulebook pertaining to either side of our dispute.

Example: Tryinids Vs SM.

Deathleaper assaults my Sternguard with Lysander attached to them. Deathleaper is in base to base contact with Lysander and a Sternguard Vet, he wants to direct half of his attacks towards Lysander, and the rest to my Sternguard.

As we could not find anything in the rulebook regarding splitting attacks from a single model, we just decided to roll off(I forget the result) and continued the game. I am just interested in Dakka's thoughts on this for if it comes up again at some point.

You can split your attacks. Page 41, Attacking, second bullet point.

Attacks are allocated by each attacking model against any unit/s they are in contact with/eligible to attack. If I have a charging Genestealer in contact with both a SM IC and a member of the squad the IC is attached to, I must allocate the 'stealer's attacks between the IC and the squad before rolling. I can put all on one of them or split them however I like.

"Declare how they are splitting their attacks immediately before rolling to hit."

Is this at the very beginning of the Assault only, before any attacks are made, or at the beginning of each Initiative level?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Well I do not know how "immediately before rolling to hit." could be any clearer.

Agreed, right before you drop the dice (or when you pick them up) declare how many on each unit. A good example of this is today I had my terminators charge a unit getting a total of 15 attacks, I grabbed 6 dice and told my opponent they were the attacks against his unit I assaulted, the remaining 9 were for against the IC that was attached to the unit I assaulted.
