Hello all!

I haven't seen any threads on this so I thought I'd ask what your favourite rules from 5th edition are? What are the rules that make you love the game, and give you those little moments of pure enjoyment, when you go "Damn, that was cool!"?

For me, I love true line of sight, as it really gets you into the game being able to get down to the models' point of view to see if you can shoot that unit over there. I also really enjoy ramming, as why wouldn't you run your Land Raider over that Ork Trukk blocking your path?

What about you, what are your favourite rules?

Only troops are scoring. Easily.

Adds balance and increased tactical nuance to the game IMHO, whilst encouraging good list design and more... realistic lists, in that things like Tactical Squads are now the heart of the army, as they should be.
The only downside is this increased emphasis on objectives has led to increased mech.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

Interesting choice, I like that too, although I think that an Elite, HQ, Fast Attack or Heavy Support infantry squad should also be able to claim an objective if they reach it in the last turn of the game. Maybe. Although its probably easier as it is!

Ramming is probably my favourite rule, compounded by the fact that it's on page 69. Hur hur

New rule? wound allocation probably, 4th ed was a nigthmare about that, especially with mixed saves in CSM and BT squads, as you just didn't get them.

I think my favorite two are TLOS and the fact that only Troops are scoring. I like the idea that only things that can actually see the enemy are able to shoot it (and there's no hiding behind tiny pieces of terrain to become technically concealed).

I mainly like only Troops scoring because it's nice to see people take more than the minimum requirement of troops to win a game - I've played a few 4e games as a laugh, and the forces tend to be very, very elite-oriented. Plus, it gives me an excuse to run 90 Boyz other than the want to get my opponent mad at me during my movement phase.

The huge issue I have with the troops only option ( apart from it simply not making sense) Is the whole SC " making elite units troops " abality. This royally pisses me off. Now I've always fielded a large troop selection, but when i see a few squads of termi's hit the field and are trying to cap points.... I simply take issue with it. ( I also have issues with 2/3 of games being point capping, but that's a different rant)

Running is by far the best 5th edition rule. Foot slogging troops no longer move at a snail pace. Plus the fact that you can actually catch units that move backwards and shoot.

I have to +1 this. However, to throw something else into the mix, I really like the deep striking mishap table. I didn't do much DSing in 4th, but many of my friends did and they hated, hated losing the whole squad all at once due to mishap. Now there is still a chance of that, but the mishap table adds to the excitement. If I were to speculate for 6th edition, I would hope for an expanded mishap table with separate results for 1 through 6 and maybe even have one be that they still land where they were initially placed but take a dangerous terrain check or something.

There is a fine line between genius and insanity and I colored it in with crayon.

Overwatch! Oh, wait, crap.

Hrrmmmm......

I think I've gotta go with Chenkov's Send in the Next Wave! if only because I love to tell my opponents that I'm prepared to throw wave after wave of my own men at them.

In 4th edition you used to be able to assault sameturn as DS, I wouldn't mind going back to the riskier table for that ability again (I used to own with my SM assault squads).

Mixed unit and cover. (If I give my Hive Tyrant guard now he can get a cover save just for them standing on it.)
