Hi,
Well I have finished my first three armies, and would like to move on to my next one.
I was wondering whether to go for a cheap grey knight or necron list, but in the end opted for an IG list, as it is a personal favorite of mine.
Fortunately a friend of mine has the codex and let me borrow it.
Since I don't really like the typical mechanized veterans, I tried to put together a competitive footslogging list.
Well here it goes:
HQ
1. Company Command Squad - 110 pts

* Platoon Command Squad - 40 pts
*** Mortar, Vox caster

*** Chimera with hull heavy flamer

2. Infantry Platoon 2 (Same as 1) - 470 pts

1. Scout Sentinel (x3) - 120 pts

Well that's it, 1500 points. My plan was to combine the three squads in each platoon that have autocannons and place the platoon command squads behind each. The two lascannon teams and the company command squad also sit together and pop some tanks. The sentinels outflank and try to wreck some vehicles or some camping troops. The leman russes deal with anything that is a threat at the moment. Finally, the two squads in chimeras rush forward late game to contest or grab distant objectives.
Any ideas/suggestions to make this list better?

I think it is an interesting list. Your opponent will probably template the crap out of it though. Personally i would prefer demolishers over the standard Leman, but that could just be personal. I like it

Loose the master of ordinance...he sucks.
You do know , even a hit is a 2d6 drift?
For 30 pts you can find something better.
Also its a mistake that you gave your ccs a lascannon AND snipers.
Think about it.You will probably try to hit tanks with the cannon and your snipers will be useless.If on the other hand you target infantry then thats a lascannon wasted on the wrong target.
Build your unit loadout either anti-tank or anti-infantry ... not both.
So sniper rifles work well with an autocannon or a missile launcher.
I also dont like mortars.Upgrade if you can to more autocannons.
Since you have commissars in your squads , you will be testing for orders on ld 10 so vox casters are not needed.
Be carefull with the HWT's.They die easly.

MoO sucks, lose him.
Mortars also suck, drop them.
Voxs suck as well... drop 'em.
The 2 PIS in Chimeras? Drop the Chimeras; you only have a few vehicles, so they'd get smoked quickly.
HWTs.... you guessed it! They suck hard. Drop them. If you want lascannons, take Vendettas.
LRBTs aren't great either. I'd swap them for Demolishers, as your blobs are total assault bait.

Ok well if I remove the lascannon heavy weapon teams, the MoO and the vox casters, I am able to upgrade the mortars in the PCSs to autocannons. I also added two vendettas and changed the LRBTs to manticores.
The problem I have with the demolishers is their short range. If I remove the chimeras from the two infantry squads I have 115 points left over. Here is the updated list first:
HQ
1. Company Command Squad - 75 pts

So yeah now I have 115 pts left over. The two infantry squads are now without a transport and they are not gonna do much in a match besides getting killed. I would like to have something to which my CCS can issue orders to.
What would you guys recommend?
And by the way, I equipped my CCS with snipers ans a missile launcher so that they can deal with a transport, monstrous creature, or elite infantry.
Suggestions?

Any guard player who doesn't realise the use of short ranged firepower is stupid. No offense meant.
Also, footsloggers are going to get FRAGGED in KP games.

Not really.
Blobs mean the whole blob only give up a single KP. Think about that. If I bought 50 guardsmen, gave them a commissar, and blobbed them, I now have 50 stubborn, Ld9 guardsmen that only give up a single KP and would take forever to grind through. Give them power weapons for sergeants and commissar, now you have a prickly blob that will grind down nearly anything before the end of the game.
As for the OP, list looks a lot better. Get rid of the two infantry squads that aren't doing anything, saving you another 100pts. Drop the snipers in the CCS, they're just terrible, inexcusably terrible and a waste of points. Use plasma, melta, or GLs, just not snipers.
Anyways, now you 215pts. Buy every sergeant and commissar power weapons for your blobs (80pts). You should have 135pts left, which is another vendetta, or two more infantry squads with autocannons and power weapons (almost, you'd need 5pts, but close enough).

Hey thanks for the advice guys!
I don't have the codex with me, and I've been quite busy with college apps and everything, so I haven't been able to work on the list much.
Well anyways, do you think it would be better to lose the sentinels, as they are an easy kill point, and with the extra points add a third blob of guardsmen with a commissar, autocannons, and power weapons?
The thing is, I really want to have something for the company command squad to command, so that I am not wasting the possibility of using orders.
I will try to post my "final draft" list tomorrow if I make any changes that I want to ask advice on.

Wow...some... different advice there given to you. Better give Black a big thanks for giving you some of the better advice.
MoO can be made twin linked if you give your CCS 'Bring it Down!' and target a vehicle or MC. You re-roll the entire scatter and distance roll. It makes it suck alittle less then normal, but it is a cheap pie plate. Just don't expect it make your list go.
Sniper rifles can work, but I wouldn't put them in the CCS. I have put them in PCS at times, sometimes 4x Sniper Rifles or 2x Sniper Rifles and a AC. Then you have something for MCs and if there are no MCs the AC can try to pop transports. Obviously everything can unload into troops. I am still a fan of 4x Melta guns, 4x Flamers, or even 3x Flamers and a Heavy Flamer. I also like tossing a Melta bomb or a Plasma Pistol on the PCS to give it a Str 7 punch at 12" range.
Vendettas are not bad, but neither are HWSs. If you use them wrong, they will preform poorly. Any HWS that is not in cover is a mistake, pure and simple. To make them effective for Orders you should have a Lord Commissar or Kell. Place them within 6" of the Lord for his 'Aura of Discipline' to give them Ld 10 for Morale, Pinning, and Orders. If you give the Lord a Camo Cloak, you can attach him to a squad to make it stubborn and a 3+ cover save. For a Order heavy list, you should be looking at Creed anyways. In a foot list, I would rather have the LC HWSs over the Vendettas, but that nitch needs to be filled either way (long range AT). There really is no wrong answer, but if you do Vendettas, I would insist that you put troops in them to make them scoring. This may mean you should re-purpose your PCSs to put them in the Vendettas... either 4x Flamers or 4x Melta guns. The PCSs are the easy choice for this, and maybe best suited due to the 4 special weapon slots, plus, you have to have them anyways.
Proper blob should have a commissar, melta guns, and power weapons and melta bombs for everyone who can use them.

Ok, well I don't really want to put meltaguns on my guardsmen, because they are expensive money-wise.
Also, I think that Creed is a bit points expensive for a 1500 points army.
However, how do you think this army would fare?

Never been a fan of the Armored Sentinel. Especially in squads. If you want to bring plasma templates to the game take an Executioner. With the points you spent on those sentinels you could easily get one in that list or even another Vendetta. Also if you get any of the leman russ kits they come with multi-melta sponsons. What does this mean for you? Easy conversion parts for melta guns in your army. That's 4 melta guns per tank you get. Just cut the end off a flamer, glue a multi-melta tip on and green stuff it till it is looking good again. There you go, cheap and easy meltaguns!

Guess I'm a little late in the game here and the list has changed much since it's first incarnation. I would second most of the suggestions, however, I personally do not think that the Master of Ordinance sucks. I've have great success with him, myself (but then again, I am excellent at rolling 1's!). For 30 points you really can't expect the MoO to be as good as a Leman Russ Battle Tank, but I think he's worth every penny for a CCS that's going to be stationary.
For a foot list, I agree with the suggestion that heavy weapon teams may be the way to go, since the vendettas will get a lot of anti-tank fire in a list that's not heavy on vehicles.
I also think you may be putting a bit too much points into non-troop choices. Right now you're spending less than 600 pts or only a little more than 1/3 on troops. Given how easy guardsmen die, you may want more troops.

Well I do prefer the heavy weapons teams over the vendettas because I can put them in cover, they give me a couple of extra points, and they are cheaper (especially considering that I would have to order the vendetta conversion sets from forgeworld). However if I do go with them, I think what would be nice to do is to also get rid of the sentinels, and then scrape together enough points to add a third blob. Then I could add Creed, as his extra number of orders and his increased order radius would become a lot more beneficial.
What do you guys think of this?
Well I have been convinced that the MoO isn't very reliably, and I doubt I would be able to fit him into the list. Anyways, thanks again for all the advice guys, it's been very helpful!
