so I was in my FLGS today and me and a few mates were joking about silly but fun armies to make such as using pokemon as C'Tan shards (pocket hyper stone prisons=pokeballs IMO) and flowerpot men necrons.

I then had the idea of a "pony wing" ie. using my little pony models (converted with armour, re-painted ala grimdark and so forth) as space marine bikes to make a raven wing bike army or using them as thunder wolves (I would like to mention at this point that I was inspired by some ponyhammer pics I saw on 1d4chan, I'm not a fan of the TV show I can assure you.....oh wait). as far as the master of the raven wing model goes I'd use a Pegasus model with a plasma cannon on its back and a sword/unicorn horn (these will come as standard but in chain sword form) so I have a few questions before I shell out a few pounds on 20 odd plastic "not-my little ponies" from a local pound store:

I assume due to the size of the model, TWC would be the best choice but would they work as bikes? their about the same size as anus and his mount (and no less ridiculous). I ask due to TLOS and those sorts of issues. also, I assume a pony would be faster than a marine but would there be issues here? (these are, of corse, minor niggles as an army of ponies would be generally offensive to look at :3 )

as for bikes, can they be mounted on the large/MC base's or are the new bike base's all that you can use?

so far for attack bikes, I'm thinking mounting a heavy weapon on the models back but I'm stuck on what to do as a land speeder. I was thinking a more armoured Pegasus style pony but any ideas would be nice

also, where would I mount the bolters that come with the bike?

making the armour seems to be a problem too, I would imagine plasticard is the best bet but if anyone can offer anything in the way of advise it would be helpful

And just a little something to leave on, this is an idea for a fun and very stupid army that I’ll probably have a whack at making. Lets keep any hate for MLP to ourselves

...Please tell me that "anus" is just a typo and you meant "Canis".

Canis Wolfborn is substantially larger than a biker, so Thunderwolf Cavalry would be more appropriate than bikers in terms of TLOS. On the other hand, if your opponent if fine with you using My Little Ponies in a 40k game, I'm sure they'd be fine with your models being a bit off size-wise. If you are using them as bikers, then you should probably use GW cavalry/bike bases though. As Thunderpony Cavalry however, 60mm bases would be most appropriate.

Sadly I must agree...if done well it could be very cool...I mean like full paint jobs and proper conversion/modeling practices. Simply gluing SM parts to pastel plastic ponies would be kinda dumb.

Seriously, if someone use proper green stuff techniques, and designed the armor well, it would look fantastic! haha

If I still had my ultra smurfs I would def do this. Silly armies are the best armies imo.

On a serious note, considering the IG already have Rough Riders, why not a Cavalry based Bike unit (or Army) for the SMs.
You could probably make the Bretonian WHFB horses work just fine (and keep the all GW).
As for TWC, just base them on the appropriate base size and it should be OK. In fact that may be an interesting Army to make using the SW dex...except make everything Equine related rather than Lupus.

well...today bought sad news......the shop doesn’t stock ponies any more but that wont stop me for I shall not rest till I find a new source of ponies

dkellyj, I would but the issue is the size of the model. if I can find smaller ponies (the MLP kind) then I'll make a bike army but for now its thunder ponies ^^

as it's a space wolf army I want to make use of long fangs, would people be ok with me using a pony with 5 MLs attached to it and for each casualties (ie. Dead long fang) I take off a wound instead? It’ll be mounted on a MC/valk size base so base size shouldn’t be an issue right?

Another option is to make them Bloodcrushers.
