MrEconomics wrote:The standard loadout for an Honor Guard is 4 Meltaguns and optionally Jump Packs. They will not handle a unit Nobz. In fact, nothing in the BA codex will handle a unit of charging Nobz in CC besides TH/SS Terminators.
Ranged Weapons that can do it:
Missile Launchers
Lascannons
Meltas
Bloodstrike Missiles
CCW's that can do it:
Dreadnought
CCW's
Power Weapons
Power Fists
Thunder Hammers
Units that can do it:
Honor Guard
Vanguard
Death Company
Most of our special characters
Assault Squads with Sang Priests/Librarians/Chaplains
As for the
OP's question, here's how I kit out my
HG when I take them:
(All have Jump Packs or are hopping out of a Stormraven)
Sanguinary Novitiate
Blood Champion (
PW, Meltagun, Bolt Pistol)
Honor Guard (Chapter Banner, Power Weapon)
Honor Guard (Flamer,
CCW)
Honor Guard (Flamer,
CCW)
In this configuration, they have a Meltagun to pop open a transport to be able to assault the contents, plus they have dual flamers to slap some wounds on the target unit. Then, the Blood Champion and the guy holding the flag hit with 10 I5 S5 Power Weapon attacks on the charge along with 12 I5 S5 normal attacks. They have
FnP, and whatever character they're attached to is also getting +1A, Furious Charge, and
FnP. Good times.
Although, if you wanted to build a shooty and choppy Honor Guard unit that would make Nobz cry, you could go with:
Sanguinary Novitiate
Honor Guard (Chapter Banner, Power Weapon, Meltagun)
3x Honor Guard (Power Weapon, Meltagun)
With 4 S8 AP1 shots followed by 16 S5 I5 Power Weapon attacks on the charge, most Nob units in any configuration won't survive. Not much would in any army.
You've gotta ask yourself though, will the Honor Guard unit you build do better than Mephiston in that scenario or in your list? If not, take him instead. I've played TONS of games with him, and he kills on average three units before he dies from accumulated wounds. Otherwise, he's gone on to kill even more. He's got to be used correctly, but he's damn good at what he does. Also, like Mr.E points out,
TH/
SS Termies (which would cost you 225 points in our book) will do equally well against those Nobs too. Ultimately, just mess around with unit builds and find what works best for your play style.
