To make them flash you have to wire in a certain type of circuit which allows it. I wired my monolith to stay lit with several LED lights but at my local shop they didn't have the circuits to add extra stuff.

The website posted has a explanation. The problem would be finding a board small enough to fit and be hidden.

Hopefully this might help: http://www.ehow.com/how_11385418_make-series-leds-flash.html Or you could pop in and ask the staff at your local Maplins as they usualy have someone who can point you in the right direction. Edit: for web address problems

I've only added LED's to a few pieces of terrain but get all my bits from this site.

I just wire the flashing LED's into the circuit with no extra boards needed. I'm sure there's better ways of doing this but it works for my humble needs.

A little note, but you CAN get LEDs that flash (they have the flashing circuitry built in - and as an added bonus, they also take care of their own current limiting resistor - no need to add an extra one) instead of just plain ones.
They DO cost more, but take less work and require less componentry.
