Hey all,

I've seen more and more of these KGN battle reports being posted on here and am interested in starting a small force. I've run into a few problems though

First off, are the models used 20mm in size?
Regardless of what the scale is, what are some of the reputable manufacturers?
And lastly, is the easiest way to get the rulebook over the net?

Any light anyone can shed on these questions or the starting the game in general would be appreciated!

Just my 2 cents

I haven't played a game yet (models on order, just I sent them home and I'm at Uni )

1. It recommends 20mm. I will be using 15mm and see how it goes with the same ranges and everything...
2. Sorry, can't help here. Isn't it 1/72 scale, so maybe Airfix? I'm sure Big P will turn up on this thread, I'd actually really like to know where his collection came from *cough*
3. I ordered it online, it said it would take up to two weeks to arrive but it only took about 4 days (I remembered to send it to my Uni accommodation). And at about £27 inc. P&P. I felt it was good value given the army book's rules, background and how I didn't have to wait too long for it to arrive.

Until I play some games I can't offer any good army-picking advice but I'd say go for a good mix of recce, command, some armour, supporting infantry and arty support. Sounds silly, but I'm saying don't power game, it will not work. Hope this is useful, and enjoy KGN

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

1. What you see Big P posting are 20mm or 1/72. This scale is viewed as almost a "standard" for historical wargaming.

2. There is an almost endless number of manufacturers; metal, resin, plastic, you name it.
check out :
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Index.aspx
http://www.onthewaymodels.com/kitlists/manufacturers.htm

Two great websites offering reviews and pics of models/sprues.

Personally I prefer plastic as it is cheaper and have been quite impressed by offering from plastic soldier company (infantry and tanks) pegasus hobbies (tanks so far) italeri, UM, Roden, the list goes on.

Websites like:
http://www.rollmodels.com/
http://www.squadron.com/HotDeals.htm

offer plenty of different stuff in plastic/resin, but check out AB Figures, S and S, there are alot of manufacturers.

Pick a scale, pick a army/period (gotta have 2 armies) and start from there.

3. Order online while the 1/2 sale is still in effect.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I've placed my order for the book, though I've got no idea when it will show up. As far as the models go, I'm thinking I'll have a look to see what I can find at model shops close to my house. I think I'd prefer something like resin or metal as I like Battlefronts stuff because it feels substantial. I'll see what there is though as I could always just add weight to the plastic stuff

Just my 2 cents

Someone called?

1 - Yup its for 20mm but will work fine for 15mm or 10mm.

2 - Hundreds of manufacturers... I use metal figures and resin/metal/plastic vehicles.

3 - GW

Now if you want to get into KGN, then join here;

www.guildwargamers.com

We have an area dedicated to KGN and Warwick is a member.

It also has details of new army lists Im working on with him.

The Guild is also a 20mm forum and has thousands of images of 20mm kit, tons of links to companies, living figure catalogues and database, most main companies are also members and if you ask on there you will get a ton of responses.

If you want to find out about 20mm then join up...

Speak of the Devil and he will appear. You can almost hear the fanfare

I think it would be something by George Formby than a fanfare...

LOL!

Excellent.

Actually old George went and played for the troops in Normandy. He did a gig in a barn near the frontline and just after starting the Germans shelled the area.

Some wit in the audience shouted;

"See George, even the f**ckin' Jerries cant stand it!"

You know, I have to ask - as someone who plays Flames of War, and who is interested in WWII: Is there any reason to pick up KGN? It would seem to be pretty easy to get into, and a pair of Plastic Soldier Company 1/72 infantry sets costs less than 22 pounds. You seem to be pretty big on it, Big P.

Gah. Pun unintended.

Depends... and I cant really answer you in a way as I have never played FOW.

KGN plays very differently to most games. The ability to suppress enemy forces and utilise artillery to pin enemy troops is very nicely modelled. The morale system is superb.

I used to play Rapid Fire, and I played that for 15+ years. I aint played it since KGN came out in April, and I have played KGN every week since then as the games are so varied and exciting to play. They also give a rather good feel for the period too.

Im lucky enough to have got to know Warwick too so Im writing lists for other theatres of WW2 and he reviews them and helps out. Its very handy. And with PSC its cheap... Will at PSC plays KGN too. I would also recommend joining my forum and seeing whats there, loads more AARs that may give you a better insight into the gameplay.

Oh and avoid Valiant if you want to buy other figures... They are massive, more 25mm than 20mm...

Well, now I'm interested - hopefully the 1/2 price sale goes on for a couple more weeks. I'll pick up the book then.
